Folks, this is an OLD thread. We no longer live in that townhome. My son no longer tries to escape. He no longer kicks the door when he doesn't want to go to bed. He's no longer 2. He's almost 4. And he's a wonderful, sensitive, loving, and charming little boy.
We've outgrown our townhouse. We recently had it on the market and got some really crappy offers so we took it off and have prepared ourselves to sit tight another year or so until the economy (hopefully) improves.
We have 2 toddlers that share a bedroom. Their room is adjacent to the neighbor lady's bedroom. There are two beds in the room and it's not very large so there isn't any other way to arrange the furniture. Ds sometimes kicks the door to the bedroom if he doesn't want to go to bed or if he's up early and wants out (we have child-proof handles on the doorknobs or else the little man would escape and that scares me since he's tried to go outside by himself.) We've learned that when he kicks, he's trying to postpone bedtime and get us to come in there and be with him. We know he'll kick a couple of times and then realize we mean business about bedtime and he crawls back into bed and goes to sleep. It usually only lasts 5 to 10 minutes. It's not repeated kicking, just once every few minutes or so. When we've gone in to discipline him for kicking, he only does it again because he saw it got us to come in and be with him. Ignoring it makes it end more quickly.
This afternoon our neighbor lady came over to complain that our kids are pounding the walls. Dh explained it's our 2 year old son kicking the door because he wants out of his bedroom and that we tell him not to, but to let him out would be prolonging the problem so it's best to let it happen for a few minutes and then he'll quit and go to bed. She said it is irritating and dh said, "Yeah, it is to us too, but what would you propose we do to get our toddler to stop?" She said we should move him to a different room or move the furniture around. Dh told her we only have that room for the kids to share and the furniture for two kids in a room that's not very large means we don't have other options for furniture arrangements. He told her we'll continue to work with him on not kicking or pounding. She said, "I don't like hearing the pounding in the evening or sometimes early in the morning. This morning he was pounding at 7:30 and it woke me up." Dh said, "Yes, he was up at that time (actually that's sleeping in for him!) and we went and got him out right away so he wouldn't kick. I'm sorry he woke you but sometimes living in a townhouse means you hear your neighbors even when they don't intend to disturb you."
Grrrr. I'm so ready for a house that is not attached to 5 others. Really, does this woman not remember when her daughter was a toddler? Does she think we can't hear the times she and her teenager yell at one another? Does she think we love hearing her dd slamming doors when she's pissed at her mom? But we understand she's a teenager and that we live in connected houses so we're bound to hear some day to day stuff.
So now we're the pesky neighbors who can't control our toddler and keep him from irritating the people next door.

I'm not a previous poster, but it's not really jumping to conclusions. She posts manically on threads all evening long, and her kids are young-ish age. I would guess 9, 7, and around 3. It does not take a genius to figure out she is not interacting with kids when she is posting every 2 or 3 minutes. I only noticed because my kids are close to the same age, and I wondered how she had so much time to post so much.
PS - Before you say it, no, it was not *every* night, but at least 3 weeknights most weeks. She also posted complaining about her DH's gaming, so you know he was on a computer as well...
In lieu of the school stabbing, I am amazed that we are not seeing posts on how knives need to be better controlled, more laws written to keep knives out of citizens' hands, etc. Oh wait, that only happens when there is a school attack using guns. Maybe (highly doubtful, but one can hope) this will help open the eyes of people to the fact that better mental health care will help decrease tragedies.

Mitsuyuki Ikeda, a researcher from the Okayama Laboratory, has developed steaks based on proteins from human excrement. Tokyo Sewage approached the scientist because of an overabundance of sewage mud. They asked him to explore the possible uses of the sewage and Ikeda found that the mud contained a great deal of protein because of all the bacteria.
The researchers then extracted those proteins, combined them with a reaction enhancer and put it in an exploder which created the artificial steak. The “meat” is 63% proteins, 25% carbohydrates, 3% lipids and 9% minerals. The researchers color the poop meat red with food coloring and enhance the flavor with soy protein. A Russian warplane made several close-range passes by an American warship in the Black Sea over the weekend, in what the Pentagon is calling a "provocative" move amid escalating tensions in the region.
The jet, a Russian Su-24, made numerous low-altitude passes on Saturday over the USS Donald Cook, a guided-missile Navy destroyer in the western Black Sea, the Pentagon confirmed.
According to officials, the jet made a total of 12 passes over the course of 90 minutes. It did not once respond to multiple contacts and warnings from the USS Donald Cook, despite the fact that the U.S. Navy ship was able to reach the cockpit directly.
The Pentagon says that the jet had no visible missiles attached to its wings and that the incident ended without any exchange of fire.
"This provocative and unprofessional Russian action is inconsistent with international protocols and previous agreements of a professional interaction between our militaries," Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren said.
The low altitude of the jet varied at times from "virtual sea level to several thousand feet," Warren said. The jet did not "buzz" the Cook, but "flew too close," he said.
A second Russian Su-24 was in the area the entire time, but did not make any similarly provocative maneuvers.
The Pentagon says there has been no official communication with the Russians since the incident, and that a formal protest has not yet been filed.
A recent survey of 148 insurance brokers shows that ObamaCare is sending premiums rising at the fastest clip in decades.
"For the last, about, five years they've been doing this survey, so this was the largest percentage increase in any quarter since they've been doing (it)," says Scott Gottlieb of the American Enterprise Institute.
"But at 12 percent, 11 percent increase on average across all the states -- that puts it at the upper end of any increase we've seen for decades."
That is the national average in a survey done by Morgan Stanley. But in some states, it found rates are soaring.
"There are specific states with exorbitant increases," says Gottlieb. "Delaware had 100 percent increase, Florida had a 37 percent increase, Pennsylvania 28 percent increase, California had a 53 percent increase in their premiums."

Someone (on the side of the rancher) was telling me about this earlier today. My belief is that the owner of the land gets to dictate the terms of use, within lawful limits. If they govt. owns the land they should have the right to allow grazing or not.
Having said that, I don't really know how many generations of the Bundy family have used that same Federal land for grazing their cattle. Maybe it's the only way they can make a living. Nor do I know how much time they were given.

The number of Americans who say they've had important personal information stolen online – such as their social security number, credit card or bank account information -- is on the rise, according to a new Pew Research Center report.
In the survey, conducted in January, 18 percent of online adults said they have had personal information stolen. That's up from 11 percent in a July 2013 Pew survey. The report was released Monday.
The 50-64 age group reported the largest increase in stolen data, with 20 percent saying they had personal information stolen, up from 11 percent last year. The 18-29 age group reported the second largest increase, from 7 percent last year to 15 percent this year.
The number of adults who had an online account compromised or taken over without their permission — such as email or social media — remained flat at 21 percent.
The survey was done after news broke of Target Corp.'s massive pre-Christmas data breach, but well before last week's discovery of the "Heartbleed" bug, which has caused widespread worry across the Internet.
The Target breach resulted in the theft of 40 million debit and credit card numbers, along with the personal information of up to 70 million people. The cost of replacing potentially stolen debit and credit cards has already reached into the tens of millions of dollars.
Other companies including Neiman Marcus and Michael's subsequently reported their own smaller data breaches.
It remains unclear whether hackers have been able to exploit Heartbleed, which went undetected for more than two years, to steal personal information. The bug is caused by a flaw in OpenSSL software, which is used on the Internet to provide security for both websites and networking devices such as routers, switchers and firewalls.
The Heartbleed bug is estimated to have affected 66 percent of active sites on the Internet, according to the Pew Research Center.

Folks, this is an OLD thread. We no longer live in that townhome. My son no longer tries to escape. He no longer kicks the door when he doesn't want to go to bed. He's no longer 2. He's almost 4. And he's a wonderful, sensitive, loving, and charming little boy.
We've outgrown our townhouse. We recently had it on the market and got some really crappy offers so we took it off and have prepared ourselves to sit tight another year or so until the economy (hopefully) improves.
We have 2 toddlers that share a bedroom. Their room is adjacent to the neighbor lady's bedroom. There are two beds in the room and it's not very large so there isn't any other way to arrange the furniture. Ds sometimes kicks the door to the bedroom if he doesn't want to go to bed or if he's up early and wants out (we have child-proof handles on the doorknobs or else the little man would escape and that scares me since he's tried to go outside by himself.) We've learned that when he kicks, he's trying to postpone bedtime and get us to come in there and be with him. We know he'll kick a couple of times and then realize we mean business about bedtime and he crawls back into bed and goes to sleep. It usually only lasts 5 to 10 minutes. It's not repeated kicking, just once every few minutes or so. When we've gone in to discipline him for kicking, he only does it again because he saw it got us to come in and be with him. Ignoring it makes it end more quickly.
This afternoon our neighbor lady came over to complain that our kids are pounding the walls. Dh explained it's our 2 year old son kicking the door because he wants out of his bedroom and that we tell him not to, but to let him out would be prolonging the problem so it's best to let it happen for a few minutes and then he'll quit and go to bed. She said it is irritating and dh said, "Yeah, it is to us too, but what would you propose we do to get our toddler to stop?" She said we should move him to a different room or move the furniture around. Dh told her we only have that room for the kids to share and the furniture for two kids in a room that's not very large means we don't have other options for furniture arrangements. He told her we'll continue to work with him on not kicking or pounding. She said, "I don't like hearing the pounding in the evening or sometimes early in the morning. This morning he was pounding at 7:30 and it woke me up." Dh said, "Yes, he was up at that time (actually that's sleeping in for him!) and we went and got him out right away so he wouldn't kick. I'm sorry he woke you but sometimes living in a townhouse means you hear your neighbors even when they don't intend to disturb you."
Grrrr. I'm so ready for a house that is not attached to 5 others. Really, does this woman not remember when her daughter was a toddler? Does she think we can't hear the times she and her teenager yell at one another? Does she think we love hearing her dd slamming doors when she's pissed at her mom? But we understand she's a teenager and that we live in connected houses so we're bound to hear some day to day stuff.
So now we're the pesky neighbors who can't control our toddler and keep him from irritating the people next door.
Whew. Thanks for letting me vent.

I'm not a previous poster, but it's not really jumping to conclusions. She posts manically on threads all evening long, and her kids are young-ish age. I would guess 9, 7, and around 3. It does not take a genius to figure out she is not interacting with kids when she is posting every 2 or 3 minutes. I only noticed because my kids are close to the same age, and I wondered how she had so much time to post so much.
PS - Before you say it, no, it was not *every* night, but at least 3 weeknights most weeks. She also posted complaining about her DH's gaming, so you know he was on a computer as well...

In lieu of the school stabbing, I am amazed that we are not seeing posts on how knives need to be better controlled, more laws written to keep knives out of citizens' hands, etc. Oh wait, that only happens when there is a school attack using guns. Maybe (highly doubtful, but one can hope) this will help open the eyes of people to the fact that better mental health care will help decrease tragedies.

Somehow this feels like a Vonnegut plotline: population boom equals food shortage. Solution? Synthesize food from human waste matter. Absurd yes, but Japanese scientists have actually discovered a way to create edible steaks from human feces.
Mitsuyuki Ikeda, a researcher from the Okayama Laboratory, has developed steaks based on proteins from human excrement. Tokyo Sewage approached the scientist because of an overabundance of sewage mud. They asked him to explore the possible uses of the sewage and Ikeda found that the mud contained a great deal of protein because of all the bacteria.
The researchers then extracted those proteins, combined them with a reaction enhancer and put it in an exploder which created the artificial steak. The “meat” is 63% proteins, 25% carbohydrates, 3% lipids and 9% minerals. The researchers color the poop meat red with food coloring and enhance the flavor with soy protein. Initial tests have people saying it even tastes like beef.
Inhabitat notes that “the meatpacking industry causes 18 percent of our greenhouse gas emissions, mostly due to the release of methane from animals.” Livestock also consume huge amounts of resources and space in efforts to feed ourselves as well as the controversy over cruelty to animals. Ikeda’s recycled poop burger would reduce waste and emissions, not to mention obliterating Dante’s circle for gluttons.
The scientists hope to price it the same as actual meat, but at the moment the excrement steaks are ten to twenty times the price they should be thanks to the cost of research. Professor Ikeda understands the psychological barriers that need to be surmounted knowing that your food is made from human feces. They hope that once the research is complete, people will be able to overlook that ugly detail in favor of perks like environmental responsibility, cost and the fact that the meat will have fewer calories.

A Russian warplane made several close-range passes by an American warship in the Black Sea over the weekend, in what the Pentagon is calling a "provocative" move amid escalating tensions in the region.
The jet, a Russian Su-24, made numerous low-altitude passes on Saturday over the USS Donald Cook, a guided-missile Navy destroyer in the western Black Sea, the Pentagon confirmed.
According to officials, the jet made a total of 12 passes over the course of 90 minutes. It did not once respond to multiple contacts and warnings from the USS Donald Cook, despite the fact that the U.S. Navy ship was able to reach the cockpit directly.
The Pentagon says that the jet had no visible missiles attached to its wings and that the incident ended without any exchange of fire.
"This provocative and unprofessional Russian action is inconsistent with international protocols and previous agreements of a professional interaction between our militaries," Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren said.
The low altitude of the jet varied at times from "virtual sea level to several thousand feet," Warren said. The jet did not "buzz" the Cook, but "flew too close," he said.
A second Russian Su-24 was in the area the entire time, but did not make any similarly provocative maneuvers.
The Pentagon says there has been no official communication with the Russians since the incident, and that a formal protest has not yet been filed.
A recent survey of 148 insurance brokers shows that ObamaCare is sending premiums rising at the fastest clip in decades.
"For the last, about, five years they've been doing this survey, so this was the largest percentage increase in any quarter since they've been doing (it)," says Scott Gottlieb of the American Enterprise Institute.
"But at 12 percent, 11 percent increase on average across all the states -- that puts it at the upper end of any increase we've seen for decades."
That is the national average in a survey done by Morgan Stanley. But in some states, it found rates are soaring.
"There are specific states with exorbitant increases," says Gottlieb. "Delaware had 100 percent increase, Florida had a 37 percent increase, Pennsylvania 28 percent increase, California had a 53 percent increase in their premiums."

Someone (on the side of the rancher) was telling me about this earlier today. My belief is that the owner of the land gets to dictate the terms of use, within lawful limits. If they govt. owns the land they should have the right to allow grazing or not.
Having said that, I don't really know how many generations of the Bundy family have used that same Federal land for grazing their cattle. Maybe it's the only way they can make a living. Nor do I know how much time they were given.
The father's attitude - "My son is a political prisoner" sounds like grandstanding.

The number of Americans who say they've had important personal information stolen online – such as their social security number, credit card or bank account information -- is on the rise, according to a new Pew Research Center report.

Other companies including Neiman Marcus and Michael's subsequently reported their own smaller data breaches.
It remains unclear whether hackers have been able to exploit Heartbleed, which went undetected for more than two years, to steal personal information. The bug is caused by a flaw in OpenSSL software, which is used on the Internet to provide security for both websites and networking devices such as routers, switchers and firewalls.
The Heartbleed bug is estimated to have affected 66 percent of active sites on the Internet, according to the Pew Research Center.
