One cycle of IVF at the clinic in my town is $10,955 medications included, pre-treatment workup excluded, another $1200+/-. it is a massive amount of money for insurance to pick up. there should be a better way to do it. i think it should be a rider you can buy, spread the cost out over the people who are going to use it.
i on't care how people get their babies as long as it's legal. we decided not to do it. 28% success per cycle, industry standard, not good enough odds for us since our specific odds were lower than that. we weren't going to dump all that money into being disappointed. but i don't care how people get their babies, IVF, adoption, international or domestic, infant or child or special needs. whatever, it doesnt really matter to me.

People are really ignorant about benefits that exist to help you adopt. There are federal tax credits, state tax credits, employer benefits. This year the federal tax credit - completely refundable - for adoption is $13,170.
People who say they can't adopt because of money but can afford to do IVF are probably bullshitting themselves or you. Hey, you don't want to adopt? Fine. I pity any child who is adopted by people who are not completely enthusiastic and thrilled about it. But don't use the weak argument that it is too expensive. That's usually not true and when so many people repeat that bs it is discouraging to people who really want to adopt. You want to adopt then you should investigate what it really costs. If I adopted today, I would have access to over $20,000 in adoption benefits between federal, state and employee benefits. You can adopt a child for less than that.

This chick with her "my contractor up and left" has me wondering if there is more to the story. My DH is a contractor and there is no way he would walk off a job with the economy being the way it is. He has homeowners who are giant pitas and he would love to walk away from but that's impossible to do and still run a business.
I'm pretty sure bdhardy's dh was trying nicely to tell her to get a job and she either ignored or didn't get the hint. She could at least pick up something part time. She even says money is tight sometimes. If she has her teaching certificate she should at least do some subbing.
