President Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia left Oahu after 15-day holiday vacation in a beachfront luxury home in Kailua, Oahu.
They also left a pretty big bill.
The Obamas’ vacation cost taxpayers more than $4 million for travel, staffing, security, housing, car rentals and transportation of vehicles and a helicopter.
But the expenses continue.
First lady Michelle Obama extended her own vacation, flying to the island of Maui, where she is spending time with family friend Oprah Winfrey. Winfrey’s magazine describes the home as a “perfect 21st-century farmhouse” in a “remote up-country region, where the houses that dot the moss-covered rock hillside face the ocean.”
The president said he sent his wife to Maui as an early birthday present; she turns 50 Jan. 17.

I know a wide variety of people from work, church, kids activities and I know zero people with weight loss surgery. I think it's mainly a result of the class of $ you have or don't have.
It's not a money/have/havenot issue. If you are morbidly obese insurance companies will pay for it - even medicaid. To them it's cheaper in the long run.
Look up BMI WLS requirements...

I've known 5 or 6 people over the years who've had weight loss surgery. All of them got down to normal then gained 1/2 to 3/4 the weight back; all except one have turned into hard drinkers.

I know a wide variety of people from work, church, kids activities and I know zero people with weight loss surgery. I think it's mainly a result of the class of $ you have or don't have.
It's not a money/have/havenot issue. If you are morbidly obese insurance companies will pay for it - even medicaid. To them it's cheaper in the long run.
Look up BMI WLS requirements...

#53-I think you might have hit the proverbial nail on the head with your comment!!! I am a Pea that has had WLS. I've lost 236 lbs in the 7 years since my surgery. I don't talk about it at the pod for all the reasons that have become self evident both here and at the pod. It's just bitch, bitch, bitch or horror story after horror story. It saved my life but I know it's not for everyone. I had to jump through all kinds of hoops with my insurance company but I did it and my only regret is that I waited so long to do it.

I've known 5 or 6 people over the years who've had weight loss surgery. All of them got down to normal then gained 1/2 to 3/4 the weight back; all except one have turned into hard drinkers.

It's hardly cheaper for the insurance companies if the majority of WLS people are gaining lots of weight back.
From what I read in the latest wls thread, insurance is NOT covering the "hey I got fat again" fix surgeries. So it's NOT costing the ins. co. anything.

LOL They don't just do "a second surgery". I was referring to a thread (85) and the surgeries are to remove these devices (for the surgeries that use devices). The devices make people sick - shouldn't be used in the first place imo.
