Monday, November 14, 2005 4:08:40 PM I started my new job on Monday November 7th. I'm now a full-time nanny to one tiny 3 month old girl, Leah. During the first week I worked an abreviated schedule, only working from 9am to 5 pm. I overlapped with the mother, who I call my "boss lady." We overlapped so that she who has 3 months childcare experience could teach me, who has 11 years childcare experience, how to take care of the baby. I find it kind of silly but I never say that to my boss lady. I just take it all in knowing that once she goes back to work, that the baby and I will find our groove and settle into our routines. My commute hasn't been totally awful but its been pretty bad. I'm a little concerned about it, but I'm trying but to dwell on it. The thing is that since I've been going in at 9 and leaving at 5, then anything I learn about traffic patterns and commuting time is not going to be relevant when I start my real schedule on the 21st. The real schedule is going to be 7:30 to 6:30. For now I've been leaving the house at 8 am and having 10 min or so to pull over before I have to go in. I like arriving early for 2 reasons. 1. I have less stress on my way wondering if I'm going to be late. And 2. I like having a few minutes to myself before I have to go in and start the day. The baby was pretty high maintainence during my first week. She wouldn't take a bottle, not only would she not take it, but offering it to her made her cry hysterically. She also doesn't like it if the person holding her sits down. So I stood most of my first week. Not only that, but I had to do deep knee bends, squats and various funny walks to get her to be content. I joked with people that I was going to have the ass of an 18 year old in no time. She is however, very cute and I think together we have a lot of potential to be "buddies" of sorts. When you spend so much time with a kid it does begin to feel like that because you're always together. She will be the one person I see the most in a course of a week, 45 daytime hours is a lot. I met 2 of my boss ladys friends in the first week. Interestingly enough I *never* met any of my last boss ladys friends and I worked there for 4 years. Crazy. Her friends were really nice and they both have babies, so I assume we'll have "playdates" at some point. On my last day of the week, I clipped the babys finger nails because my boss lady had never done it and she was scared of cutting the babys fingers. She figured since she was paying me for all of my experience she should let me put it to good use. I didn't cut her, I haven't cut a kid yet with nail clippers. I also gave her a bath and cleaned her all up, cleaned the scrunge out of her skin folds and gunk out of and behind her ears, and made an effort to improve her cradle cap. If you don't know what that is, its a greasy, flaky patch on a babys scalp, kinda gross but fun to pick at if you like that sort of thing and you're a monkey. There is some more to write about the first week but that will do it for now.
Tuesday, November 15, 2005 4:43:45 PM I'm on the couch at work right now holding a sleeping baby girl. I've been in 4 or 5 different positions and my back and neck are hurting in every one. My goal is to get Leah taking regular scheduled naps because according to her mother, she doesn't sleep during the day. This is only my sixth day at work and she has slept more and more in my arms every day. I've noticed that when Leah is breastfeeding with her mom and she (the baby) starts to doze off, the mother jiggles her and talks loudly to her until she wakes up...huh?!? Well no wonder she doesn't sleep for her mom, she won't allow it or facilitate it. I think this baby is so psyched that she "met" someone who lets her sleep when she needs to. I think she's saying to herself "oh thank goodness, someone that just lets me sleep!" Once I have her sleeping regularly in my arms, I'm going to try to make the switch to get her to start sleeping in her crib. I'm thinking that will be tough. I don't think my boss wants me to "Ferberize" her yet or maybe at all. To "Ferberize" refers to a book written by dr. Ferber called "How to Solve Your Childs Sleep Problems" Check it out, the only thing is that it involves some tears, usually on both the baby's and the mother's parts. Nannies I think are better equipped to handle the tears because we see the long term benefits of taking care of a baby who falls asleep as soon as you put her in her crib and stays asleep for the whole nap time. I think I may reread the book before I start making any decisions about it.

Know how she got him to sleep with her? Told him I was the one cheating on him and gave him details. The sad part? The details were stupid shit I did in college before I even started dating him. For some reason, she wanted him. Fast forward 10 years, she married someone she cheated on my ex with and has cheated on that man with my ex and probably others. I thought I knew her. Know why she wanted my ex? Because I got pregnant quickly with two kids while she struggled after one. She had hoped my ex would knock her up quickly. So yeah, I understand the whole "my life is awesome, my husband is great, my best friend is great," only to have it all come crashing down.
I wish my husband would cheat on me. It doesn't even have to be with my best friend. At least it's a more substantial reason to divorce than the truth, which is that he's dull and boring and we have nothing in common (except kids).

The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (Pub.L. 110-140[1] originally named the Clean Energy Act of 2007) is an Act of Congress concerning the energy policy of the United States. As part of the Democratic Party's 100-Hour Plan during the 110th Congress,[2] it was introduced in the United States House of Representatives by Representative Nick Rahall of West Virginia, along with 198 cosponsors. Despite Rahall becoming 1 of only 4 Democrats to oppose the final bill,[3] it passed in the House without amendment in January 2007. The stated purpose of the act is “to move the United States toward greater energy independence and security, to increase the production of clean renewable fuels, to protect consumers, to increase the efficiency of products, buildings, and vehicles, to promote research on and deploy greenhouse gas capture and storage options, and to improve the energy performance of the Federal Government, and for other purposes.”.[9] House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promoted the Act as a way of lowering energy costs to consumers.[10] The bill followed another major piece of energy legislation, the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
The bill originally sought to cut subsidies to the petroleum industry in order to promote petroleum independence and different forms of alternative energy. I started my new job on Monday November 7th. I'm now a full-time nanny to one tiny 3 month old girl, Leah. During the first week I worked an abreviated schedule, only working from 9am to 5 pm. I overlapped with the mother, who I call my "boss lady." We overlapped so that she who has 3 months childcare experience could teach me, who has 11 years childcare experience, how to take care of the baby. I find it kind of silly but I never say that to my boss lady. I just take it all in knowing that once she goes back to work, that the baby and I will find our groove and settle into our routines.
My commute hasn't been totally awful but its been pretty bad. I'm a little concerned about it, but I'm trying but to dwell on it. The thing is that since I've been going in at 9 and leaving at 5, then anything I learn about traffic patterns and commuting time is not going to be relevant when I start my real schedule on the 21st. The real schedule is going to be 7:30 to 6:30. For now I've been leaving the house at 8 am and having 10 min or so to pull over before I have to go in. I like arriving early for 2 reasons. 1. I have less stress on my way wondering if I'm going to be late. And 2. I like having a few minutes to myself before I have to go in and start the day.
The baby was pretty high maintainence during my first week. She wouldn't take a bottle, not only would she not take it, but offering it to her made her cry hysterically. She also doesn't like it if the person holding her sits down. So I stood most of my first week. Not only that, but I had to do deep knee bends, squats and various funny walks to get her to be content. I joked with people that I was going to have the ass of an 18 year old in no time.
She is however, very cute and I think together we have a lot of potential to be "buddies" of sorts. When you spend so much time with a kid it does begin to feel like that because you're always together. She will be the one person I see the most in a course of a week, 45 daytime hours is a lot.
I met 2 of my boss ladys friends in the first week. Interestingly enough I *never* met any of my last boss ladys friends and I worked there for 4 years. Crazy. Her friends were really nice and they both have babies, so I assume we'll have "playdates" at some point.
On my last day of the week, I clipped the babys finger nails because my boss lady had never done it and she was scared of cutting the babys fingers. She figured since she was paying me for all of my experience she should let me put it to good use. I didn't cut her, I haven't cut a kid yet with nail clippers. I also gave her a bath and cleaned her all up, cleaned the scrunge out of her skin folds and gunk out of and behind her ears, and made an effort to improve her cradle cap. If you don't know what that is, its a greasy, flaky patch on a babys scalp, kinda gross but fun to pick at if you like that sort of thing and you're a monkey.
There is some more to write about the first week but that will do it for now.

I'm on the couch at work right now holding a sleeping baby girl. I've been in 4 or 5 different positions and my back and neck are hurting in every one. My goal is to get Leah taking regular scheduled naps because according to her mother, she doesn't sleep during the day. This is only my sixth day at work and she has slept more and more in my arms every day. I've noticed that when Leah is breastfeeding with her mom and she (the baby) starts to doze off, the mother jiggles her and talks loudly to her until she wakes up...huh?!? Well no wonder she doesn't sleep for her mom, she won't allow it or facilitate it. I think this baby is so psyched that she "met" someone who lets her sleep when she needs to. I think she's saying to herself "oh thank goodness, someone that just lets me sleep!" Once I have her sleeping regularly in my arms, I'm going to try to make the switch to get her to start sleeping in her crib. I'm thinking that will be tough. I don't think my boss wants me to "Ferberize" her yet or maybe at all. To "Ferberize" refers to a book written by dr. Ferber called "How to Solve Your Childs Sleep Problems" Check it out, the only thing is that it involves some tears, usually on both the baby's and the mother's parts. Nannies I think are better equipped to handle the tears because we see the long term benefits of taking care of a baby who falls asleep as soon as you put her in her crib and stays asleep for the whole nap time. I think I may reread the book before I start making any decisions about it.
