I think those threads should be restricted to peas who actually have jobs. REAL jobs, not working part time at the local Sugar Shack. Jesus Christ you gonna whine when people without kids comment on parenting threads then shut your piehole on work threads. No your job you had 15 years ago doesn't count.
Tell him MY DH goes backpacking at least twice a year (or more). Straps crap on his back, hauls three miles into the woods, sets up camp, and hikes six more miles the next day (or whatever insane crap they do out in the woods).
He not only has taken to leaving me small gifts and notes for each day he is gone, but calls. In fact, he bought a solar charger for his cell so that he can call me.
They call when they get to whatever national park they are hiking in. Call when they set up camp. And at least twice a day after that - once in the morning, and once at night. Sometimes once around lunch if he can get a signal.
He does all the calling because he respects the fact that I would worry (granted, I have more reason to worry than if he were just on a plane, what with the bears and sprained ankles and whatnot)
When the trips first started, I only asked for once a day calls, so I knew he was alive. He's done the rest on his own - because he wants to come home to a happy wife - and five to ten whole minutes out of twenty four hours is a small sacrifice for him to achieve his goal. ___________________________________
