A student opened fire at his middle school Thursday afternoon, wounding a 14-year-old in the neck before an armed officer working at the school was able to get the gun away, police said.
Multiple shots were fired in the courtyard of Price Middle School just south of downtown around 1:50 p.m. and the one boy was hit, Atlanta Police Chief George Turner said. In the aftermath, a teacher received minor cuts, he said.

I'm sorry I wasn't very forthcoming with much information in my last post a month ago. There were other things going on and I was feeling very upset that my silence had resulted in a pea trial and conviction before I even had a chance to respond. so I gave a non update and that just made things worse.
I'm not sure where to start, but I guess I'll start with Penny.
The reason I didn't say what happened was because at the time I wrote the post, she was still being boarded. We hadn't made a decision. I felt like no matter what we chose to do, it was wrong. So the best thing, we felt was to take time to decide whether to bring her to our home or to rehome her. We spoke with the shelter and DH and I spoke to each other. We wanted to make the right choice. And in the end, it was something totally unrelated to Penny that tipped the scales in one direction. DH has a medical condition that only a handful of people (my IRL best friend and our parents) know about. DH had a flare up and we weren't sure how long it was going to be an issue. When it came down to it, it was a really bad time to bring a new pet in to our home. . . and that's what we'd essentially be doing if we brought Penny back home.
Now before anyone thinks she was put to sleep, she wasn't. The shelter helped us find her a new home with an invisible fence. That was one of the "rules" for her new forever home.
I'm sure some will find fault with the decision and others will think it was the right one. but the bottom line was at the time, it was the best we could do.
And based on what is happening with DH's health right now completely unrelated to his other medical issues, I'm having to rely on friends and church family for help with my kids while I shuttle to appointments. Penny wouldn't be getting the care she needs. Hopefully DH will get a clean bill of health after next week's appointments.
A few other truths that need to be set out: Our first dog Ollie. Some are under the mistaken impression that we had three dogs in 12 months. That was caused by a troll bumping old threads. Ollie was our dog in 2005-2006. He is the one that got out when the gate was left ajar by children.
In our discussion on whether to get another dog FIVE YEARS later (2011 post where I talked about how my kids weren't that upset by the dog running away), DH reminded me that when Ollie ran away, our oldest child was 8. And he has high functioning autism. The children were really too small to be upset and DH was working two jobs to help Dave Ramsey our lives. Our circumstances were very different.
It took a year of discussions and I told DH that I felt it was better to get two dogs. And so...in July we adopted Penny and Sheldon.
I don't think that qualifies as spur of the moment or having three dogs in one year.
We did lose our cat Steve last year. Steve was left in our rental property by tenants. he was pretty much an outside cat we were trying to teach to be an inside cat. He got out when we thought he was hiding upstairs and was hit by a car. Josie who was a stray we took in back in 2009 is still with us and very much loved.
There were accusations also that I didn't talk about the problems we were having with Sheldon. I did post looking for help with Sheldon. I was not specific about the problems and asked for someone who knew about dog behavior to peamail me. A few people asked why I wasn't being specific in that post and I replied that I knew it was going to be a disaster thread and I'd prefer to pick a pea's brain instead of having all the pea opinions weighing in. Sheldon's behavior was worrisome and we weren't sure what to do and things escalated with him quickly. I'm not a doggy shrink. i'm not a doggy expert. I didn't feel safe with his behavior and I didn't want to put anyone at risk. We could have had a trainer out but if something worse happened, it was a liability and a risk I wasn't willing to take.
So, there you have it. I'm sorry I didn't wait until we had made a decision about Penny to post. I'm sure it would have quelled many concerns. But I felt I needed to say something and I was so hurt and probably displacing some of my other concerns about DH on to the peas. It's easier to be angry at anonymous people on a message board than to be upset about life stuff that is out of your control.
I'm not sure if I'll be back other than a random pop in here or there. We have family coming for visits. My BIL is back from his deployment in Africa. My mom is coming out to help for a bit. And we have lots to do to get ready for summer. hitting submit before I change my mind. micki

I think her fish comment shows that she doesn't understand animal care and sees fish as no work. I think she has mental health issues to some extent and she is being as self aware as what she is capable of being.
Speaking of head cases. What ever happened to that young girl with all those autoimmune problems that lived at home with her mom and brother. Had a lot of excuses for why she couldn't function apart from them, yet was very critical of them too.
It just seems to me that every.single.time she throws off some little nugget of a detail that is guarenteed to inflame the Peas. Then proceed to act all innocent. Every time.
I have all my cd's and dvd laid across my living room floor to be organized, put back in their right cases (and not the chandler bing filing method), and shelved. About 2 years ago the shelf got knocked over and they've been a mess ever since! *********************************

I just don't think it's healthy to be so consumed by one aspect of your life. My husband I had come to terms with our situation and are still exploring adoption as a way to expand our family.

Of course accepting infertility is a grieving process.
Allowing it to define you is a failure of character, IMO. Okay, so you can't have children. It sucks. It hurts. It's not fair.
But how much more DO you have?
So many women focus myopically on this one issue that it becomes the defining thing in their lives. The ones who moan on and on about miscarriages and infertility and on and on and on.
Shitty things happen to good people. You deal with them and move on. I don't find focusing on your infertility any less pathetic than focusing on the fact that you had a bad childhood, or whatever other obstacle human beings have experienced from the beginning of time.
I've met people with stage 4 cancer who cry less about their situations than many of the infertile women I've encountered over the years. It's all in how you look at it. Finding peace takes work. Why not put your energy toward finding peace rather than feeling pity for yourself?

And I guess coming in to set the record straight about a few things.
I'm sorry I wasn't very forthcoming with much information in my last post a month ago. There were other things going on and I was feeling very upset that my silence had resulted in a pea trial and conviction before I even had a chance to respond. so I gave a non update and that just made things worse.
I'm not sure where to start, but I guess I'll start with Penny.
The reason I didn't say what happened was because at the time I wrote the post, she was still being boarded. We hadn't made a decision. I felt like no matter what we chose to do, it was wrong. So the best thing, we felt was to take time to decide whether to bring her to our home or to rehome her. We spoke with the shelter and DH and I spoke to each other. We wanted to make the right choice. And in the end, it was something totally unrelated to Penny that tipped the scales in one direction. DH has a medical condition that only a handful of people (my IRL best friend and our parents) know about. DH had a flare up and we weren't sure how long it was going to be an issue. When it came down to it, it was a really bad time to bring a new pet in to our home. . . and that's what we'd essentially be doing if we brought Penny back home.
Now before anyone thinks she was put to sleep, she wasn't. The shelter helped us find her a new home with an invisible fence. That was one of the "rules" for her new forever home.
I'm sure some will find fault with the decision and others will think it was the right one. but the bottom line was at the time, it was the best we could do.
And based on what is happening with DH's health right now completely unrelated to his other medical issues, I'm having to rely on friends and church family for help with my kids while I shuttle to appointments. Penny wouldn't be getting the care she needs. Hopefully DH will get a clean bill of health after next week's appointments.
So there's the Penny truth.

A few other truths that need to be set out:
Our first dog Ollie. Some are under the mistaken impression that we had three dogs in 12 months. That was caused by a troll bumping old threads. Ollie was our dog in 2005-2006. He is the one that got out when the gate was left ajar by children.
In our discussion on whether to get another dog FIVE YEARS later (2011 post where I talked about how my kids weren't that upset by the dog running away), DH reminded me that when Ollie ran away, our oldest child was 8. And he has high functioning autism. The children were really too small to be upset and DH was working two jobs to help Dave Ramsey our lives. Our circumstances were very different.
It took a year of discussions and I told DH that I felt it was better to get two dogs. And so...in July we adopted Penny and Sheldon.
I don't think that qualifies as spur of the moment or having three dogs in one year.
We did lose our cat Steve last year. Steve was left in our rental property by tenants. he was pretty much an outside cat we were trying to teach to be an inside cat. He got out when we thought he was hiding upstairs and was hit by a car. Josie who was a stray we took in back in 2009 is still with us and very much loved.
There were accusations also that I didn't talk about the problems we were having with Sheldon. I did post looking for help with Sheldon. I was not specific about the problems and asked for someone who knew about dog behavior to peamail me. A few people asked why I wasn't being specific in that post and I replied that I knew it was going to be a disaster thread and I'd prefer to pick a pea's brain instead of having all the pea opinions weighing in. Sheldon's behavior was worrisome and we weren't sure what to do and things escalated with him quickly. I'm not a doggy shrink. i'm not a doggy expert. I didn't feel safe with his behavior and I didn't want to put anyone at risk. We could have had a trainer out but if something worse happened, it was a liability and a risk I wasn't willing to take.
So, there you have it. I'm sorry I didn't wait until we had made a decision about Penny to post. I'm sure it would have quelled many concerns. But I felt I needed to say something and I was so hurt and probably displacing some of my other concerns about DH on to the peas. It's easier to be angry at anonymous people on a message board than to be upset about life stuff that is out of your control.
I'm not sure if I'll be back other than a random pop in here or there. We have family coming for visits. My BIL is back from his deployment in Africa. My mom is coming out to help for a bit. And we have lots to do to get ready for summer.

If all 5 are truely special needs and not just fucked up in the head from their wack job mother then shes probably getting SSI for each one plus SNAP, Section 8 and Medicaid and lives better than any of us. I'm a SPED teacher and last year I had a Samali kid who had 6 SN siblings - 11 kids total and she was pulling in over 10 grand a omonth in aid.

I dont know where you live but where i live there are laws about how many sardines can be packed inyo a can. 2 people per bedroom means a 5/6 bedroom house which rent for $2500/3000 mo that is taxpayer paid. Then add Medicaid for a family of 13 with 6 SN kids who need expensive meds snd therapy. The school the child I teach (behavior) costs the district $7500.00 per month per kid. School for mom and dad who speak no English...you add it up. I said 10 grand in benefits and it's probably more than that.

Another thing I'm tired of are all the infertile attention whores. These women get so consumed by their infertility that it becomes part of the way they identify themselves.
And yes. I know the pain of infertility first hand. I have posted about my infertility here and a few weeks ago announced my miracle pregnancy here, as well. (Thanks to all who offered well wishes, by the way!)
I just don't think it's healthy to be so consumed by one aspect of your life. My husband I had come to terms with our situation and are still exploring adoption as a way to expand our family.
So much of life is in how you look at things, and there are way too many peas and infertile women who view the world through their lense of self-pity.

Of course accepting infertility is a grieving process.
Allowing it to define you is a failure of character, IMO. Okay, so you can't have children. It sucks. It hurts. It's not fair.
But how much more DO you have?
So many women focus myopically on this one issue that it becomes the defining thing in their lives. The ones who moan on and on about miscarriages and infertility and on and on and on.
Shitty things happen to good people. You deal with them and move on. I don't find focusing on your infertility any less pathetic than focusing on the fact that you had a bad childhood, or whatever other obstacle human beings have experienced from the beginning of time.
I've met people with stage 4 cancer who cry less about their situations than many of the infertile women I've encountered over the years. It's all in how you look at it. Finding peace takes work. Why not put your energy toward finding peace rather than feeling pity for yourself?
