A private caregiver, living in a home own by a couple of parents, runs around $35,000 per resident (based on two residents plus a caregiver) A State Group Home is covered by the Med. Waiver. Nobody wants to put their adult child in a State Group Home, but who has $50K a year (after tax income) to pay for the adult child to live out their life in a nice facility? The life span of a special needs person is the same as it is for you and me. Parents need to wake up and start saving now.
