They said Japanese-Americans reacted with ''a collective sigh of relief'' in receiving an official apology for what they felt to be 46 years of shame and pain because they had collectively been accused of disloyalty to the United States.

At a news conference held at the national headquarters of the Japanese American Citizens League, Ben Takeshita, a spokesman for the organization, urged rapid passage of the Congressional appropriation measure that would begin payment of $20,000 each to approximately 60,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry who were interned and are still living. #120,000 Ordered Detained About 120,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry were ordered detained in Government camps by President Roosvelt in 1942 after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.

Mr. Takeshita said that while the money ''could not begin to compensate a person for his or her lost freedom, property, livelihood or for the stigma of disloyalty,'' it showed that the Government's apology was ''sincere.''

Well Reagan did apologize to the American CITIZENS of Japanese ancestry that were forced to work in camps so it's okay I suppose.

So to hear that Reagan didn't receive the same treatment for apologizing is just shocking right? Because no president is ever treated differently for doing the same damn thing right?

I used to get excited about politics, followed candidates referendums and elections, now that I'm in my 50s it seems that it really doesn't matter who is in charge. Something over the last 20 years has changed and politicians quit looking out for there constituents and started looking out for themselves and lobbyists.

Republicans = Keep what you make and pay your own way.

Democrats = Liberal hippy give give give donate and live in peace with happiness and rainbow unicorn glitter coming out your ass.

-----------------------------------------

I hate - no make that detest - generalizations.

To sweepingly state Repubs = this or Dems = that, really demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of politics in America. It's just not that well defined. There are many of us who are finding it increasingly difficult to firmly stand behind any particular political party, let alone the increasingly weak and divisive candidates we are left to vote for over the last 12+ years.

I live in a predominately Republican city and state. Almost all of my neighbors, friends, and family are Republican. I am embarrassed to tell you that I am related to 4 different families - ALL REPUBLICAN - that HATE Obama - and every.single.member of those families are on the government DOLE! They work the system like you wouldn't believe.

These are *not* retired people who earned their SS. This are working-age adults in their 30's and 40's, plus children that have all managed to find doctors that have certified the adults as "disabled", so they and their children qualify for government aid. (16 people, with 1 on the way)!

Again, the adults are ALL REPUBLICAN. Greed and laziness is NOT confined to one political party.

This country is broken in so many ways, thanks to both political parties and the citizens themselves. I sincerely wish people would stop point fingers and DO something to get us back on track. And I think that means EVERYONE has to 'feel the pain' - rich and poor, military and civilians, businesses and individuals. No special interest groups should be immune to higher taxes and/or cost cutting measures. NO ONE.

Off my soapbox now.

Good! I see no reason why taxpayers should be paying for young adults to go to college. Nor do I think taxpayers should be paying for preschool for the offspring of their fellow citizens. Job training? We need low-skilled labor. Why should anyone expect skill training on the backs of their neighbors?

Thirteen years of taxpayer-funded education ought to be enough. Beyond that, people should be expected to PAY THEIR OWN DAMN WAY.

I'm a big girl and I can take it. Some of the people that get smacked over here actually get their feelings hurt over it. So if beating up on me keeps you from beating up on people that have a thinner skin, then so be it.

In society there are always groups of bullies. They need a common target. Without it, they begin to turn on each other, because they have to bully somebody. It's rooted in low self-esteem and the belief that if they can burn out someone else's candle, their own will burn brighter. You see it over and over in religious groups, political parties, office politics, the schoolyard, and now the internet. None of you will recognize that behavior in yourselves, it would cause you to have to reflect on the fact that just maybe you aren't the top dog you think you are.

Well, I do appreciate your use of the word alleged. It is good to see that at least one person understands the term innocent until proven guilty.

Very good questions 298. You would have to ask the Prosecuting Attorney why they refused to file charges. While you are at it, ask them why they left the witnesses statements out of the report and instead claimed there were none. Maybe also ask why nobody checked whether there were drugs or alcohol in her system and why she wasn't at a minimum issued a traffic citation. These are all questions I raised at the time and got nowhere.

And that was the just the tip of the iceberg. There was so much more. Life can certainly be stranger than fiction.

Yeah, it's funny how none of the people in jail or prison are ever guilty. Guess the police just had it out for you because you homeschool.

According to all the pea homeschoolers that just not true.

There is a difference in people who are in prison because they were convicted and people who have been arrested because they have been accused. I know to the simple minded it is hard not to get confused but that is how the system of justice works in this country. However, there are a lot of innocent people who get convicted and that is a terrible shame. And then there are the people who are guilty and are not convicted. It is not a perfect system by any means.

As to homeschooling, I really don't get why people get such a hard on about that topic. I don't care if you homeschool your kids, why do you care that I do mine? I do what works for my family and you do what works for yours. But my kids don't have to deal with a lot of crap that goes on in the local schools here and I feel like they are better off for it. My daughter who is off to college now agrees. My kids love being homeschooled, they don't envy their public school friends at all.

That is one reason people criticize Joe Arpaio in Maricopa County. Many of the people in his terrible tent cities have not been convicted of any crime at all. They are often there because they can't make or were denied bail.

This is actually a brilliant idea. Let the taxpayers invest in anyone who achieves a certain scholastic criteria, along with some form of participation in extra curricular activities like sports, government, volunteer work etc. Give them a full ride so they can concentrate on their education. Toss them out if their grades drop, but let everyone else go look for private grant money, have their parents foot the bill, or work their way through school. Now that would raise the level of education in this country. Brilliant!!

No I think getting up at 5:30am getting the kids up at 6, making breakfast and lunches, getting everyone dressed and to daycare, going to WORK for 8 hours coming home fixing dinner, helping with homework going to whatever sport practice there is that night and trying to keep up with the laundry and housework is work.

I think homeschooling is sleeping till whenever, giving the kids a few "assignments" and peaing all day is the sweet life.

Re: Homeschooling

-----------------------------

I'm all for alternative schooling options. Not all kids learn at the same pace or by the same methods.

But why is it that rarely does a child who would benefit from an alternative learning method actually get it? For instance, wouldn't all those IEP, 504, Aspy/Autistic kids with mothers who rant, rave, scream and carry-on about getting "special services" really be better suited for homeschooling?

I don't think I know a single "special needs" kids that's homeschooled, now that I think about it.

And another thought. Have ANY of you ever heard about a "homeschooling failure"? When the Peas post about homeschooling, all you ever hear is about great success, full scholarships to college, "my kid LOVED homeschooling!" Seriously, somehow I highly doubt homeschooling has a 100% success rate - but the Peas would make you think so.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

It gets dumb and dumber. You have no clue what either of those words mean.

banana lady said...

Well there is now someone attempting to post under my name so you'll just have to guess which ones are the real me and which ones are fake. If you care, which I know you don't. So be it.

But I wanted to talk about this homeschooling situation since I feel qualified to answer a few of the questions that have come up. Firstly, I have seen homeschooling failures. There are some people doing it who don't take it seriously and their kids can't get into college and have no desire to ever even try. But, there are plenty of public school kids like that so I feel that's just the way it goes sometimes. I'm not a fan of the "unschooling" movement and yet I have known 2 homeschoolers who did it quite well and their kids didn't suffer for it. It probably helped that in both situations their kids were only children so they only had to follow the interests of one child. I can imagine it would be much harder to do well with several kids, all having different interests at once.

As for homeschooling special needs children, I guess I need to know how special needs you are talking about. I don't personally know anyone who is homeschooling kids with autism or anything on the spectrum but I know lots of people who have taught their kids with learning disabilities and a lot of the time, that is why they were homeschooling them. They felt like they were just being left behind in the public schools and being socially promoted and their kid wasn't actually learning the stuff to be passed onto the next grade.

Personally, one of my children has a learning disability. He is dyslexic and dysgraphic. And I admit we struggled. I got him some outside help to get him going when I felt I was out of my ability to help him. Now, he thrives. We don't need the outside help anymore, but if we did, I know where to find it if I ever need to in the future. And if I had felt that the local school could have helped him, then I would have sent him there. But my husband and I had many discussions about it and we both knew he would just be teased mercilessly for needing special ed and we desperately wanted him to be confidant that he could do it, not be torn down by kids calling him stupid.

There are some perks to homeschooling, we do tend to sleep in and do a lot of our stuff in the late afternoon into the evening. Depends on what we have got going on. We have the advantage of being able to travel to the places we are studying in history and out field trips are more educational than anything I have ever seen a public or private school do. And we get to do the fun stuff too.

Sometimes it is a lot of work, but I will admit that I have fun doing it too. I was planning to teach in the public schools before I became a homeschooler so reviewing curricula and planning out lesson plans is something I enjoy doing. And having the freedom to really explore a subject and not have to keep in mind the big TESTING deadlines is very freeing.

So, in a nutshell, sometimes it is work and sometimes it is fun. I like being home with my children. My family isn't just like every other family. We aren't republican christians that homeschool although as a homeschooler, I get put on this mailing lists because people assume that is who you are. We do not fit any mold, we are just us.

I don't care who homeschools.

I know exactly one homeschooling family, with one child. They maybe do school for 2 hours a day. They are wacky scientologists and the daughter has pretty bad behavior and mental issues and the school wanted her to see a psychologist for her issues so the dad pulled her out. HOW dare they want my kid to take meds and see a psych!!!

It is really the stepmom who is my friend, they have joint custody with the mother. The dad never graduated HS and got his GED later so he doesnt care. He works as a personal trainer and lived with the daughter at his mommy's house when my friend met him and married him. Winner.

My friend has a college degree and she is always bitching that at 10 yrs old this little girl is so lazy that she "forgets" stupid shit like how to tell time on a clock or how to do fractions.

I dont even say anything. I think the bio parents know inside that if their kid was exposed to The Man in the form of school admins, CPS would be called on their sorry scientology asses so the little girl does "school" 2 hrs a day on the days my friend has her, which is 3 days a week.

No way that kid is going to college. I bet she barely gets her GED.

The standard practice for diagnosing a psychiatric disorder typically revolves around behavior rather than biology. A person exhibiting symptoms of hyperactivity and inattentiveness may be prescribed medication for attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder, while those alternating between periods of intense happiness and depression may be showing signs of bipolar disorder.

However, scientists have speculated for some time that genetic variations may play key roles in the development of these types of psychiatric disorders. And now, DNA evidence reveals this not only to be true – but many unrelated disorders are more connected than previously thought.

In the largest study of its kind, scientists have revealed for the first time ever that five major psychiatric disorders actually share common genetic risk factors. The five fairly distinct conditions include attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder and schizophrenia.
