WASHINGTON – The House voted Thursday evening to cut nearly $40 billion a year from the country's food stamp assistance program.

The 217-210 vote was a major victory for Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia and largely cast along party lines. All House Democrats and 15 Republicans voted against slashing the budget for the program.

Despite its passage in the House, the bill is unlikely to make it through the Democrat-controlled Senate.

Dems won't do it - - they like handing out gubment cheese...

A morbidly obese two-year-old has become the youngest person in the world to undergo bariatric surgery.

The parents of the toddler from Saudi Arabia who weighed (73 pounds) and had a Body Mass Index of 41 sought help because he suffered sleep apnea that caused him to stop breathing while asleep.

Two attempts to control his weight by dieting failed said the medics who carried out the bariatric surgery Mohammed Al Mohaidlya, Ahmed Sulimana and Horia Malawib in an article in the
International Journal of Surgery Case Reports.

...and they say Americans are fat?? WHAT?

OK, I need a spreadsheet keeper! I thought in the past when ADD talked about her kids' schools, she always complained they were surrounded by some of the worst schools in their state...now her DD goes to the best one in the country? Not adding up here...

Limapea2's los are ummm... interesting. There are so many and they are all so.... not up to current online scrapping standards. Mostly just one matted photo on themed paper with a few stickers and no journalling. Some of the titles are bizarre also. Does anyone else think she posts them just to get a reaction? Sure seems like a lot of work to go through to get attention.

Anonymous said...

No 8, I don't think she posts them for reaction. I think she's a lost cause and that she actually likes what she's made.

It *IS* top of the line, ya know!! ONLY the best.

Guess some have to really struggle to find something to complain about. He's an old man, just let it go.

Anonymous said...

I've never understood people criticizing other people's scrapbook pages. Luckily when I started scrapping, I wasn't even aware of the culture, and the "scrap celebrities" and I just scraped the way I liked it. I'm sure if I posted my pages, some would love them, and some wouldn't like them at all...but who cares? As long as I like them, does it really matter? Just something I have never understood.

Anonymous said...

when you post anything online you open yourself up to criticism - unless you're anonymous.

I don't want to start a debate over at the bukkit, but from the spectrum stories I read there, I can totally see the employee being a spectrum kid, and wanting the 'correct' answer. I don't mean that to bash on anyone, but just as a fact. Most spectrum kids are black or white, so pink is for girls, and batman is for boys. I don't mean this in a bashing way at all, but with all the accommodations made in school, this is the future of the spectrum kids at work. I understand that some accommodations need to be made, but I really wish there were more things focused on helping the child integrate into society instead of society bending for the child.

Same here. Arguing with some dumb kid is NOT going to change anyone's thinking or bring about some kind of social change. She was being a twat just to be a twat. Holding up a drive thru lane is probably the only power she's got in her life.

Anonymous said...

I agree 34, the OP was being a smart ass, but the employee clearly wasn't getting it. Isn't that part of being on the spectrum; not understanding social cues?

33-Awww, you're so ugly when you're such an asshole.

True, but the OP looks just as (or maybe even more) dense than the clueless, spectrum-like kid working the drive thru. At a point when you realize someone just isn't getting it, wouldn't the mature thing to do be to move things along as expediently as possible?

It's so damn childish to argue just for the sake of arguing. Especially when the other person is a bit special. Reminds me of L'Urine, but even she said she wouldn't waste her time on something like that.

Anonymous said...

Eh, if that McDonald's OP wants to waste her time making a ruckus over boy/girl toys she should knock herself out. But holding up other customers just because she felt like being a twat was not OK.

What if that aspie kids look down and sees BOY or GIRL on her keypad? They might not be able to to process it in her mind. Or is that considered a processing disorder? Or Add? Maybe it's ODD.. fuck it I can't keep up with them all.

Anonymous said...

Get ready to deal with more and more "spectrum" and "processing" disorders every time you hit a retail establishment. It's about time that the general public has to put up with what the schools have to.

Employers just need to make accommodations. Easy.

Anonymous said...

yes, 61, like not putting someone who is incapable of doing a job, for whatever reason, on different duties. That would work.

Anonymous said...

Sure, just put the socially inept kids on the grill or on cleaning duty. But I wouldn't want to be the mgr. who had to deal with the helicopter parents.

Anonymous said...

I can't wait to see what happens when all the masses of special ed and accommodations kids hit the job market and the ADA applies . . . it ought to be one hot mess. Look at how much money schools are spending to try and educate these kids-what kind of pickle are employers going to be in when they can't just not hire the special snowflakes, and then they have to try and come up with all kinds of accommodations? Basic social skills are a prerequisite for any job-what is society supposed to do with all these people who can't function in this basic capacity? The whole situation is sad and messed up.

Anonymous said...

"Sure, just put the socially inept kids on the grill or on cleaning duty. But I wouldn't want to be the mgr. who had to deal with the helicopter parents."

__________________________________________________

You do know the real world is not the same as the education system? Employers don't have to take on spectrum kids and probably avoid it as much as possible. Most of these kids wouldn't BE employed as anything BUT cleaning duty and I doubt any parent however fucking helicopter they are will have much say in that.

I'm sure all the litigious helicopter parents will take care of that soon if the ADA already hasn't. If you think the huge upcoming crop of spectrum kids isn't going to affect anything but schools, you are beyond naive

Anonymous said...

Does the person disclose they need accommodations during the interview or after they are hired?

I can't imagine companies hiring some of these spectrum kids and then accommodating. Lot's of kids at my ds's school can only take tests in quiet rooms and get time and a half on the test, how is that going work in an office?

"OK Ted I expect you to have those reports to me by Tuesday. Get back to your cubicle and finish them, Rod you can go to the quiet back room and get yours to me by Thursday."

Seems it would be easier not to hire them at all.

Anonymous said...

September 21, 2013 at 1:47 PM

ITA, and hopefully companies will have that choice. Not so sure how it will all shake out, and then you're going to have millions and millions of adults who aren't hireable . . . who takes care of them?

Anonymous said...

Many autistic adults have a hard time finding their place in the world. Less than half enroll in higher education or find work. (According to the Social Security Administration, only about 6 percent of adults with autism work full-time.) Many lack the skills to live alone. Those who cannot work generally qualify for monthly Social Security disability payments, which are too low to cover vocational coaches, therapeutic day programs, or other interventions that may help an autistic person reach a modicum of self-sufficiency. Meanwhile, the federal government does not require school systems to provide special education for students older than 18 (most states, including Illinois, have extended the requirement through age 21).

From this article:
http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazine/March-2013/When-Autistic-Children-Are-Children-No-More/

Anonymous said...

I had a developmentally disabled girl apply for a receptionist job I had open. She came with a job coach and the job coach said she would come to work with her for as long as it took for the girl to catch on. That would have been forever because the girl would never have caught on. I didn't hire the girl - the job coach was pissed and told me I was discriminating against the handicapped. I felt bad for the girl but she would never be capable of doing the job and my fucking taxes paid for the job coach!

Anonymous said...

who takes care of them?
September 21, 2013 at 1:56 PM

We do, of course. People think Social Security is broke now? Just wait a few years. Get ready for exponentially higher taxes-it's the only way there will be enough money to support them all.

Anonymous said...

Then, of course, you have your fakers. No lie, I knew a lady who would read LOTR and HP over and over but would go do some kind of state test and fail. She said according to them she could only read at a 3rd grade level. She pretended to be "goofy" (for lack of a better word) and they sent her a check every month, paid her HUD crap (I think she paid a dollar out of her check toward it) and got extra money for her son who also pretended to be goofy.

They prescribed her medicine for various problems and she laughed and threw it away. She has transportation to the appointments given to her for her "mental illness and disabilities" and the drivers make multiple stops to accommodate them (shopping/eating...)

I avoided her after I found this stuff out (saw it for myself). I reported it but they are still scamming the system. Even reporting the fakers doesn't help.

I also know people who NEED social security because of REAL disabilities and they're being grouped in with this "scammers/liars/frauds" group and it's sad. It was put in place for a good reason and being used by jerks and making people look bad.

Some people work their asses off all their life to wake up one day unable to go to work the next due to catastrophic medical events and would rather be working. Some of them you can't SEE their disabilities but are judged. Some work(ed) their asses off and get SS AND long term disability from their previous employer because they PAID for it/into it. It's there for those people. I HATE scammers!
