I think the one thing that surprises me most about the parents (well let's be honest - MOTHERS) of these children is that the truly believe the kids will ALL graduate from high school, go to college, have great high paying jobs, get married and live happily ever after. I think the one thing that surprises me most about the parents (well let's be honest - MOTHERS) of these children is that the truly believe the kids will ALL graduate from high school, go to college, have great high paying jobs, get married and live happily ever after. Just last week, at the parent-teacher conference, DS's teacher was saying how great he was doing, and how she wished she could spend more time with him...but she can't due to 'other childrens' needs'. She didn't say IEP's or 504s, but I could read between the lines. (I do work with him at home, and I got more resources from her to work on at home). But, here is my gripe: My son is a neuro-typical average student. He, and other kids like him, get lost in the system because of all the 'special' kids that are demanding mainstreaming. I'm all for mainstreaming, but why should mainstreamed kids get hours of one-on-one teacher time each week, while my son gets resources sent home? I feel if a child is mainstreamed, he should get equal one-on-one time as every single other student in his class, not less because he is not special. But, once you bring that up...the claws come out. I am working with my son, but what about the parents that just don't have time?
