Many of those countries have a second tier where docs make extra IF THEY SO WISH in fee for service or private settings. And guess what else, those horrible socialized healthcare systems in those foreign countries, almost all of them have better healthcare statistics almost across the board compared to the the US. For instance look up infant mortality. Another thing..SUPRISE...a lot of foreign doctors actually love what they do and the money is just secondary. Shocking isn't it?
How many doctors do you personally know? Not very many of them went in to medicince for altruistic reasons. They went in there to help people, but also to make money. I'm not talking GPs, but the specialists. They specialize to make $$$ and don't kid yourself.

That house is ramshackle. The yard is overgrown. The "pool" is a frog pond with a ladder. Having leaves in your pool over the winter is not the same as your pool being so nasty you can't see the bottom at all. What gets me is that at least two different neighbors (a 15 yr old girl and an adult) both saw the child playing outside by himself. And neither one thought to alert the mom. Yet her dogs were running around and that's what prompted the neighbor's to say something? WTF??
They probably thought it unfathomable that the child would be outside and not being closely watched through a window. Or that she quickly went in to grab something. Hindsight is 20/20.

If we had a pool, I could imagine the things he would have come up with to get over the fence or open the lock. And we have friends that refuse to put a fence around their backyard pool and they use the dumb excuses. We love them, but going to their house raises new levels of stress for me.

That house is ramshackle. The yard is overgrown. The "pool" is a frog pond with a ladder. Having leaves in your pool over the winter is not the same as your pool being so nasty you can't see the bottom at all. She is the mom who lets her toddler play in the front yard barefoot in a tank top and a diaper.
She also figured out her kid was missing only when neighbors complained about her dogs running free in the neighborhood.

What gets me is that at least two different neighbors (a 15 yr old girl and an adult) both saw the child playing outside by himself. And neither one thought to alert the mom. Yet her dogs were running around and that's what prompted the neighbor's to say something? WTF??
They probably thought it unfathomable that the child would be outside and not being closely watched through a window. Or that she quickly went in to grab something. Hindsight is 20/20.

I live in a warm place, but having a pool would terrify me. My now 8 year old son was and is so smart and would stop at nothing to accomplish something. One time at 5am, when he was about 2, he used the piano bench from across the room to open the top lock on the back door and go outside. If we had a pool, I could imagine the things he would have come up with to get over the fence or open the lock. And we have friends that refuse to put a fence around their backyard pool and they use the dumb excuses. We love them, but going to their house raises new levels of stress for me.
