First, I find it incredibly offensive to be lumped in with BriannaJill or whatever she is calling herself today. I mean, anyone who would compare a 28 yr old to a 14 is not to be taken seriously.
Second, there is a 12 yr age difference between my little bro and myself. I played a huge part in raising him, and he's turned into a fine young man. I am at least partially responsible for that. I have played a big role in the life of my now 12 yr old cousin, as well, and she is turning out great.
I have a degree in child and youth care. I actually DO know of what I speak. There are kids who are still in school very much because of my work, thoughts, ideas, and interventions. I also have friends in church who have come to me at their wits end trying to figure out how to deal with certain things with their kids, and they've come to me later and were incredibly grateful for my ideas, because it totally solved the issue.
As to the marriage issue: aside from the fact that all healthy relationships share certain things in common, the fact is I have two friends whose marriages were saved in part thanks to MY advice.
If you only want to hear from people who are going to say what you want to hear, use the private messaging system. If you post it on the board, it's open for anyone who wants to respond.

actually #103 there are plenty of parents in the same boat - I think many of us are suprised at how much college costs and how much parents are actually expected to contribute. All that is considered is the parent's total income, not their debts or other expenses or the cost of living.

yup you caught me I'm the biggest dumbass in the world. The truth is I do value higher education that's why I am helping my kids with their college expenses thru Plus loans.
No I didn't save for their college as they were growing up because we were just barely making ends meet and living paycheck to paycheck.
We were young parents who didn't know shit when we first got married. Yes we bought a house 25 years ago on a 30 year mortgage ( the purchase price was a whopping $40,000). Yes I was sahm not bringing in an income for 6 years. Yes we got into debt. and no I didn't go to college or come from a family of college grads.So the financing for college was a mystery to me.
The fact is that in the past 6 years our income has risen quite a bit due to a job change,so we are expected to contribute more to our child's educational expenses than in previous years. This year our EFC was $18,000.

First, I find it incredibly offensive to be lumped in with BriannaJill or whatever she is calling herself today. I mean, anyone who would compare a 28 yr old to a 14 is not to be taken seriously.
Second, there is a 12 yr age difference between my little bro and myself. I played a huge part in raising him, and he's turned into a fine young man. I am at least partially responsible for that. I have played a big role in the life of my now 12 yr old cousin, as well, and she is turning out great.
I have a degree in child and youth care. I actually DO know of what I speak. There are kids who are still in school very much because of my work, thoughts, ideas, and interventions. I also have friends in church who have come to me at their wits end trying to figure out how to deal with certain things with their kids, and they've come to me later and were incredibly grateful for my ideas, because it totally solved the issue.
As to the marriage issue: aside from the fact that all healthy relationships share certain things in common, the fact is I have two friends whose marriages were saved in part thanks to MY advice.
If you only want to hear from people who are going to say what you want to hear, use the private messaging system. If you post it on the board, it's open for anyone who wants to respond.
I admit my delivery can be a bit over the top - sometimes that is for affect. If lots of people have already posted to a thread, I've found that in order for a post to be noticed it HAS to be over the top. Quiet, mild mannered, passive types get run over on this board.

Yes I was sahm not bringing in an income for 6 years. Yes we got into debt. and no I didn't go to college or come from a family of college grads.So the financing for college was a mystery to me.
The fact is that in the past 6 years our income has risen quite a bit due to a job change,so we are expected to contribute more to our child's educational expenses than in previous years. This year our EFC was $18,000.
