Military personnel should be able to roll over their original contribution into the Montgomery GI bill to their spouse or child, but beyond that $1,200 enrollment fee, NOTHING should be transferable. No, special snowflakes of soldiers should not have their college paid for at the taxpayers' expense or anybody else's expense just because a parent VOLUNTEERED for the military.

I joined the Navy at 17 years old because I wanted the GI bill to help me pay for college so that I could become a marine biologist. I served my country proudly and I would go back in a heartbeat to defend my country if need be! After my service I took my GI Bill and earned my PhD. I certainly DO NOT have a dead-end life, I am highly respected in my field, and I most certainly do not flip burgers. ================ My BFF served got her degree with the help of her GI bill, spent 5 years traveling Europe, Africa and Asia doing research and is now a professor at a major university in the mid-west. The Army will take just about any idiot. An enlistee doesn't even need to have a high school diploma or a GED. The required ASVAB score is only a 24 ... the equivalent of about a 13 on the ACT. It is ridiculous to think that many of these people or their special snowflakes would be able to succeed in college.

I have very mixed feeling about military personal in general, just like any other professional. There are a few things that do puzzle me. Why do women marry military (particularly non-officers), knowing that the military life will be full of hardships - multiple moves, poor pay, bad housing, etc - BUT have 3, 4, 5 children, complain about lack of money, etc?
How can they not know how hard a life this is going to be? And why does 2 yrs of non-combat enlistment entitle someone to a life time of preferential treatment and government perks? A two year enlistment doesn't qualify you for a lifetime of anything unless you were wounded in the line of duty as far as I'm aware. Even Post 9/11 GI bill benefits expire a certain number of years after separation. You won't get lifetime benefits unless you stay at least twenty years.

Every Marine is a rifleman, every soldier is given basic "combat" training. Just because your day to day job maybe pushing papers doesn't mean you will never be in harms way or won't be able to cut it if thrown into combat.
Personally I think the US would be better off if every kid had to do either two years in the military, peace corp or some other type of opportunity to get away from their parents and give something back.
Unfortunately most kids today have been told over and over how great and special they are and tend to be "shocked" when a boss doesn't respond the same way.

What people fail to understand is that those seemingly innocent threads like: "How much is a gallon of milk where you live?" (Mass) and a zillion other questions all become part of a jigsaw, puzzle. So when you post multiple times about your husband's "celebrity," or throw in something about your beach house on another seemingly innocuous thread, and then mention you pay a trainer $150 an hour to come directly to your house in another thread, your autistic (now adult) son is "non verbal" in another thread, you obviously start putting yourself on the radar because you crave attention and on the peas you will get it like that. Add all those very telling keywords in addition to responses to yet more seemingly innocuous questions answered, and the fact that there is a very small -even stretched definition of- "celebrity" pool in Mass, and you have a big picture answered thanks to google in less than a few minutes.
The same could occur for the average pea who puts way too much info out there about their kids, calls themselves "so and sos mom" and though I would never put that out there they are really not doing their kids any favors.

I have very mixed feeling about military personal in general, just like any other professional. There are a few things that do puzzle me. Why do women marry military (particularly non-officers), knowing that the military life will be full of hardships - multiple moves, poor pay, bad housing, etc - BUT have 3, 4, 5 children, complain about lack of money, etc?
How can they not know how hard a life this is going to be? And why does 2 yrs of non-combat enlistment entitle someone to a life time of preferential treatment and government perks? A two year enlistment doesn't qualify you for a lifetime of anything unless you were wounded in the line of duty as far as I'm aware. Even Post 9/11 GI bill benefits expire a certain number of years after separation. You won't get lifetime benefits unless you stay at least twenty years.

Every Marine is a rifleman, every soldier is given basic "combat" training. Just because your day to day job maybe pushing papers doesn't mean you will never be in harms way or won't be able to cut it if thrown into combat.
Personally I think the US would be better off if every kid had to do either two years in the military, peace corp or some other type of opportunity to get away from their parents and give something back.

I read the ops comment on the "bullyism" thread. I hate to tell her but kids will always call other kids names. Telling him to tell is teacher will make him a tattle tale and just get him more grief.
We told out son to say "whatever" in an uninterested tone and walk away. So far it worked when a kid started calling him Hannah Montana. I won't even call the other kid a bully just normal boy ragging on boy stuff.
Kids can sense the weak and different. Pea mom's may have kids that NEVER make fun of others and ALWAYS stick up for the underdog, but I've found kids are mainly heathen little demons and you have to teach them how to deal with each other.

It's not the dishes. I mean, the dishes are quite nice if they're a style that you like. But for most of the peas starting all the Fiesta threads, it's not about the dishes. They just want to be part of the latest big pea craze.
There are quite a few peas who are always looking for a way to fit in (for lack of a better term). If you look at all the fad threads, there are about 10-20 peas who will jump on any fucking bandwagon they can find. Meh. I'm not impressed with it. I had Fiestaware a number of years ago. I think it is way over-hyped. It scratched, chipped and cracked just like any other cheap dishes. I gave it all to the Goodwill.

My state had a "card everyone" policy, but dropped it. Still, when you go in some grocery stores and restaurants there may be a sign that says something like "we prefer our cashiers not have to guess your age, so pardon us, but we still card EVERYONE".

My car doesn't define me. It's a paid for SUV, with some rust spots. I'll have to replace it in the next few years...until then I'm driving it til the wheels fall off. In my state, there are no annual vehicle inspections but I take pretty good care of my car.

I've met Doug Flutie and his wife....he's an ass....great detective work to figure out who she is.
What people fail to understand is that those seemingly innocent threads like: "How much is a gallon of milk where you live?" (Mass) and a zillion other questions all become part of a jigsaw, puzzle. So when you post multiple times about your husband's "celebrity," or throw in something about your beach house on another seemingly innocuous thread, and then mention you pay a trainer $150 an hour to come directly to your house in another thread, your autistic (now adult) son is "non verbal" in another thread, you obviously start putting yourself on the radar because you crave attention and on the peas you will get it like that. Add all those very telling keywords in addition to responses to yet more seemingly innocuous questions answered, and the fact that there is a very small -even stretched definition of- "celebrity" pool in Mass, and you have a big picture answered thanks to google in less than a few minutes.
The same could occur for the average pea who puts way too much info out there about their kids, calls themselves "so and sos mom" and though I would never put that out there they are really not doing their kids any favors.
Moral of the story: even seemingly innoucuous info can give too much info over time. Stalker? No. Googling braggarts or people who spew way too much to show what that does even if it isn't TOLD somewhere like here, yes.
