I have plenty of fond memories of sit down dinners with my family. Sometimes there would be a main dish I didn't like, but there were always vegetables, a starch, and a salad on the side. I think if you are giving plenty of choices for one meal it is not outrageous to expect a child to pick something out of the many choices to fill up on. I hate macaroni and cheese, the thought of it makes me gag. My mother would always cook a kielbasa on the side of the mac and cheese so there'd be something for me to eat. She wasn't going to stop cooking a meal that 3/4 people liked in the house just because I didn't want to eat it.
Now if the only choice is nasty noodle casserole, I'd feel differently.
My mother hates peppers, my father and I love them, I so badly wish I had the balls to cook stuffed peppers or fajitas on a night when she's over for dinner at my house so I could pull the three bite rule on her, but I value my life too much :P. But my dad does seem to always find his way over to my house on the nights he hears I'm cooking something with peppers in it.

Typhus is such a dope. PB&J has a hell of a lot less fat than the cream cheese glop mix, which is just nutritionally poor starch combined with high fat and high sodium.

But so many Peas in that thread say they make their kids eat what's on the table even if they don't like it. I just don't get it. Don't offer junk food as a choice, but there's nothing wrong with a kid who just wants to eat the noodles and some fruit. Or cheese. Or even pb&j. Just give the kid a vitamin every day, make sure they get calcium in some form, and encourage them to try new things. But why make meal time so miserable that the kid cries? #65, exactly! It's like "I won, ha ha!" Of course there are some things we have to "win" as parents, like a reasonable bedtime, and holding hands on a busy street, polite behavior. Etc. But some of these Peas seem determined to control everything about their kids. So how are those kids ever going to learn to decide for themselves? And I think that if you routinely force your kid to eat things they don't like, or make them cry at the table, you might just have a kid who ends up with food issues. I'm not an expert on that at all but it just seems common sense to me.

I went into a carb coma just reading the recipe.
That typhus thread about kids eating dinner is pretty bad. As you all have said the recipe is gross. But so many Peas in that thread say they make their kids eat what's on the table even if they don't like it. I just don't get it. Don't offer junk food as a choice, but there's nothing wrong with a kid who just wants to eat the noodles and some fruit. Or cheese. Or even pb&j. Just give the kid a vitamin every day, make sure they get calcium in some form, and encourage them to try new things. But why make meal time so miserable that the kid cries?
