Yes, she would definitely qualify weight wise. Although if she's not working or on some kind of assistance she likely does not have the cash to pay for the procedure.
There used to be a nurse where my Dr. is that had lost a lot of weight. I congratulated her and she told me she had a lap band surgery. She proceded to look at my weight, height and tell me how much weight I would have to GAIN to get it. Uhhh no thank you! WTF I didn't and still don't need that kind of surgery LOL. She was a nutbag nurse!
I know someone who was on the line and decided to gain until insurance would pay. She gained about twenty pounds eating ice cream and fast food which put her over 40 bmi. She got gastric bypass.
If you'll gain weight to qualify for WL surgery, you will be part of the high recidivism rate and within a couple of years, you'll be right back where you started.

#153, not sure that's always true. Someone in my family gained weight on the advice of her doctor to have WLS and have it covered on insurance. She had the surgery over 5 years ago, has had a boob job to lift them back up and she's holding the weight down fine. I am puzzled that she told me she would never be able to drink again before the surgery and now every time I see her she's sucking it down. I'm not sure if she's drinking that much more or if it just takes less to be obviously drunk.

One does NOT have to have a BMI over 40 to qualify for weight loss surgery. You can be under 40 with comorbidities such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc.
In Cecelia's case, I think she'd have to LOSE weight first to be considered because her BMI is probably in the 60-70 range and that makes her VERY high risk to be having general anesthesia.
This person I knew did not have the comorbidities necessary to get surgery at a bmi of 35. She wanted the surgery badly and was denied so she ate until she was fat enough to get the bypass without being otherwise sick.

Yes, she would definitely qualify weight wise. Although if she's not working or on some kind of assistance she likely does not have the cash to pay for the procedure.
There used to be a nurse where my Dr. is that had lost a lot of weight. I congratulated her and she told me she had a lap band surgery. She proceded to look at my weight, height and tell me how much weight I would have to GAIN to get it. Uhhh no thank you! WTF I didn't and still don't need that kind of surgery LOL. She was a nutbag nurse!
I know someone who was on the line and decided to gain until insurance would pay. She gained about twenty pounds eating ice cream and fast food which put her over 40 bmi. She got gastric bypass.
If you'll gain weight to qualify for WL surgery, you will be part of the high recidivism rate and within a couple of years, you'll be right back where you started.

#153, not sure that's always true. Someone in my family gained weight on the advice of her doctor to have WLS and have it covered on insurance. She had the surgery over 5 years ago, has had a boob job to lift them back up and she's holding the weight down fine. I am puzzled that she told me she would never be able to drink again before the surgery and now every time I see her she's sucking it down. I'm not sure if she's drinking that much more or if it just takes less to be obviously drunk.

One does NOT have to have a BMI over 40 to qualify for weight loss surgery. You can be under 40 with comorbidities such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc.
In Cecelia's case, I think she'd have to LOSE weight first to be considered because her BMI is probably in the 60-70 range and that makes her VERY high risk to be having general anesthesia.

No they really don't. There is a strong pressure from individual families to *marry well* and by that they mean stay within your social class or marry up if you are a girl.
A good name in the LDS church is also important to many. Lots of LDS mothers pressure their daughters to marry a Pratt or a Hinckley if they can but the LDS church does not set this up.

Hundreds literally hundreds. The Pratt family I know have 4 boys and 3 girls and are not done having children yet. All off the kids have had mom playing matchmaker since nursery.
Also Pratt and Hinckley are not simply those names they are the families linked to them by marriage. The last name may vary but the prestige of the family line is well know within the LDS church. It is like a closed society with a caste system more than a church.
