My DS is 4 1/2 and he is responsible for making his bed each morning, putting all his clothes in his hamper when he changes, and putting away all his toys & books each evening. He also dusts. He's had these responsibilities for at least a year.
I have always felt sorry for busypea's son. She is SO 'miss-always-right' I can't even imagine her being nice to a child. Why the fuck does and infant/toddler need "high end" anything but parenting and nourishment? These plus a warm, safe place to sleep, a cardboard box and a couple of wooden spoons, and a big box of books is all any child really needs until he/she enters kindergarten.

182 - eh, but I think her son is fairly young, like mine. And mine had never seen a urinal either until last year when he happened to be out with my DH. 99% of the time he's out with me, and yes if he has to pee he comes into the women's room with me. I'm FARRRR from a helicopter mom, but when it comes to my little boy going alone into a men's room? Yeah, no thanks. I'm not sending him in there alone when a pedophile could easily be in there. Plus I don't think he would've even known what to do - the urinals are so different - and it's not like I could go in with him the first time to show him the routine.
I always hated that I couldn't feel comfortable sending him into the men's room, but I've heard way too many stories. I figured I'd hold off until he was old enough to understand that if a man messed with him he should scream, run, etc.
This poster I think has 4 little ones including 1 or 2 disabled kids. I cut her some slack for taking the easy route and doing the Women's Restroom thing with her DS. There's only so much you can do when out in public with 4 kids.
