FFS PLEASE educate yourself about Fibro and the people that have it. I do. There are times I am in pretty bad pain and NEVER once sought out drugs other than tylenol for my pain. I don't want to end up medically dependent on narcotics since I will have this the rest of my life.
Not all of us are fakers and drug seekers. I live well with Fibro and do EVERYTHING I can do to fight it with healthy choices (I lost 60 pounds (naturally), changed my diet and started exercising every day). I feel great 9 out of 10 days. On that 10th day, I can barely get out of bed. Everything hurts. I've been found on the floor just praying to just die already rather than trying to get to my feet.
I will tell you honestly there have been times where I SHOULD have asked for pain medication (and thus called drug seeking) but was so afraid of being labeled a "drug seeker" that I just gutted it out and I suffered pretty badly. People like YOU and the fakers keep people like me terrified of being labelled and in pain because of that fear.
Now don't you just feel so much better? You are a fucking drooling ass of a person...no make that a total fucking drooling ass of a near primate. You have opposable thumbs so I will have to give you that much credit, grudgingly.

So now that they are testing and diagnosing Fibro with positive double strand negative ANA tests at the Mayo Clinic, is wrong? You have to have a positive result for 3 months continuously with no other infectious processes to be diagnosed.

I am #26. I do think some people are misdiagnosed with Fibromyalgia and I do think some that are diagnosed use it to their advantage to get out of doing things they don't want to do (like working).
I am sure there are many of them on 2 Peas.
I fall into the "2%" who is still working and isn't slowing down from it. I am lucky though I see a team of doctors who right now are the leading researchers in the field.
But very honestly, there are good honest people who have it so bad they can't function. It's destroyed their lives. It is real. So many are incorrectly diagnosed right now it does look like an annoying epidemic of hypochondriacs. I am sure about 75% of those currently diagnosed will find themselves shit out of luck on the free ride train after they are tested.
If you are lazy and faking, stop it now. Go back to work and hope your insurance company doesn't come after you. There is already discussion in the insurance industry (which I am part of) of suing for fraud.
I am glad the lab test is coming (I already had it and I have it) and this will stop not only the fakers but the disbelievers.
To answer the question about "the fog" I think about a month before I sought treatment I had a brief period where I wasn't my normal sharp self. My husband noticed it and was concerned, but I didn't feel odd at all.
I don't think I have had a problem since then. My symptoms are moderate to severe traveling joint pain. When it hits the joints in my lower back and legs, I can't walk for a day or two at a time. It sucks, but I do the stuff I have to do to feel better and then just get up and keep on working. Staying busy and active is the best thing you can do.

It seems to me that the article is suggesting to doctors that positive ANA tests are very common don't really mean a whole lot on their own and that many women being referred to rheumatologists based on positive ANA tests don't have lupus (as suspected) but may be diagnosed with fibro instead of lupus. The article then goes on to say "Blood counts,serum chemistry, and urinalysis are normal in fibromyalgia, which helps to differentiate it from lupus when the diagnosis is not clear. When the history, examination, and routine laboratory tests support a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, autoantibody testing is not necessary"
Nothing about a "double strand negative ANA test" to verify a fibromyalgia diagnosis.

I don't claim to be "educated" about fibromyalgia, but I have an annoying family member who uses her diagnosis as an excuse for not working, not caring for her young children, and not doing anything she doesn't want to do, including cleaning her house, cooking dinner, or grocery shopping. Amazingly, she has no problem doing fun stuff - scuba diving, horse back riding, hiking on vacation - no problem, yet working part time or doing basic "mom stuff" is too much for her.
I hope they do have a standard blood test for it soon so that people with legitimate disease can get what they need and lazy slackers will have to get off their butts!

Which is interesting because he was in the AF and it was marines that were part of that firefight, not the AF.

FFS PLEASE educate yourself about Fibro and the people that have it. I do. There are times I am in pretty bad pain and NEVER once sought out drugs other than tylenol for my pain. I don't want to end up medically dependent on narcotics since I will have this the rest of my life.
Not all of us are fakers and drug seekers. I live well with Fibro and do EVERYTHING I can do to fight it with healthy choices (I lost 60 pounds (naturally), changed my diet and started exercising every day). I feel great 9 out of 10 days. On that 10th day, I can barely get out of bed. Everything hurts. I've been found on the floor just praying to just die already rather than trying to get to my feet.
I will tell you honestly there have been times where I SHOULD have asked for pain medication (and thus called drug seeking) but was so afraid of being labeled a "drug seeker" that I just gutted it out and I suffered pretty badly. People like YOU and the fakers keep people like me terrified of being labelled and in pain because of that fear.
Now don't you just feel so much better? You are a fucking drooling ass of a person...no make that a total fucking drooling ass of a near primate. You have opposable thumbs so I will have to give you that much credit, grudgingly.
So this "fibro drug seekers" attitude has a negative impact on people who do need pain medication to just get through a day.

I am #26. I do think some people are misdiagnosed with Fibromyalgia and I do think some that are diagnosed use it to their advantage to get out of doing things they don't want to do (like working).
I am sure there are many of them on 2 Peas.
I fall into the "2%" who is still working and isn't slowing down from it. I am lucky though I see a team of doctors who right now are the leading researchers in the field.
But very honestly, there are good honest people who have it so bad they can't function. It's destroyed their lives. It is real. So many are incorrectly diagnosed right now it does look like an annoying epidemic of hypochondriacs. I am sure about 75% of those currently diagnosed will find themselves shit out of luck on the free ride train after they are tested.
If you are lazy and faking, stop it now. Go back to work and hope your insurance company doesn't come after you. There is already discussion in the insurance industry (which I am part of) of suing for fraud.
I am glad the lab test is coming (I already had it and I have it) and this will stop not only the fakers but the disbelievers.
To answer the question about "the fog" I think about a month before I sought treatment I had a brief period where I wasn't my normal sharp self. My husband noticed it and was concerned, but I didn't feel odd at all.
I don't think I have had a problem since then. My symptoms are moderate to severe traveling joint pain. When it hits the joints in my lower back and legs, I can't walk for a day or two at a time. It sucks, but I do the stuff I have to do to feel better and then just get up and keep on working. Staying busy and active is the best thing you can do.

Sorry, 132, I don't see anything in that 10 year old article that gives any information about a blood test for fibromyalgia.
It seems to me that the article is suggesting to doctors that positive ANA tests are very common don't really mean a whole lot on their own and that many women being referred to rheumatologists based on positive ANA tests don't have lupus (as suspected) but may be diagnosed with fibro instead of lupus. The article then goes on to say "Blood counts,serum chemistry, and urinalysis are normal in fibromyalgia, which helps to differentiate it from lupus when the diagnosis is not clear. When the history, examination, and routine laboratory tests support a diagnosis of fibromyalgia, autoantibody testing is not necessary"
Nothing about a "double strand negative ANA test" to verify a fibromyalgia diagnosis.
This recent article from the Mayo clinic states that there is no blood test for fibromyalgia.

I don't claim to be "educated" about fibromyalgia, but I have an annoying family member who uses her diagnosis as an excuse for not working, not caring for her young children, and not doing anything she doesn't want to do, including cleaning her house, cooking dinner, or grocery shopping. Amazingly, she has no problem doing fun stuff - scuba diving, horse back riding, hiking on vacation - no problem, yet working part time or doing basic "mom stuff" is too much for her.
I hope they do have a standard blood test for it soon so that people with legitimate disease can get what they need and lazy slackers will have to get off their butts!

Buckeye Sandy is one of the worst offenders, she used to post first about losing her DH to "service", but I think a few years back several peas who really did lose family members got offended. Now she makes a point of mentioning that it was a brain tumor, and drops some speculation about it being from a firefight on a tankfarm in Panama. Which is interesting because he was in the AF and it was marines that were part of that firefight, not the AF.
She has every right to be proud of her service, proud of her deceased DH and his service, sad that she lost him to cancer - but she does not have the right to lie and embellish about his or her involvement.
That said, I do believe it is very likely his brain tumor was service related, given that type has been associated with exposure to several work-place chemicals. and malaria.
