Nora, I feel bad that your feelings are hurt, but I think I speak for a lot of us when I say that we weren't saying anything bad about you, we're just truly curious how you live such a life of plenty on a teacher's salary. For me, I'm a teacher and DH is out of work and I can barely pay the mortgage, and that is NOT in Cali where it's expensive to live! I'm just a curious person and if it was you (who I admire) or someone I hated, I'd be wondering the same thing. Is it my business? No. But I admit I'm really curious.
Second, maybe I missed some comments but the only negative one I read was saying they think your DH is gay. And I don't even know if they said that to be mean or if they really think that. Someone once told me they thought my DH was gay too, and I didn't take offense. He can be dorky and sometimes it comes off as effeminate.
As for your son, I think it was again just true curiosity. His clothing and hobbies are truly unique for a young man of his age, and I think people were just commenting on that because it really is different than the norm. Personally I am amazed at his confidence in doing and wearing these things, which seems rare for a 15 year old. I did see someone say that you treat him or speak of him strangely but I don't know where they got that from. Perhaps they thought you were forcing him to enjoy creative hobbies or wear funky outfits, rather than understanding that that is his own doing.
Anyway I just wanted to post because I feel bad you got hurt and I wanted to point out that maybe you took some of the comments as bashing you when really it was just curiosity (ie the finances). Sometimes when we're struggling with money and see others enjoying many luxuries we feel sad and deprived and just wonder what we're doing wrong to be so broke, kwim? I was adopted when I was a baby and my mom always knew that until the adoption went through the courts, my birth mother could change her mind. She said for six months every time there was a knock at the door she hoped it wasn't her.

Since BH is not those babies' legal mother, her contact with them is probably kind of limited especially if the babies are in the NICU, which is possible.
With all the hype surrounding their pending birth, I also find it odd that she hasn't taken even a minute to update the peas of their arrival.
I work in labor and delivery. I know first hand that adoptive mothers are allowed to be in the room with the baby, even in the NICU. I worked with one today, about 4 hours ago. As long as the BM has no problems with it, it's fair game. Stop being a bitch.

Nora, I feel bad that your feelings are hurt, but I think I speak for a lot of us when I say that we weren't saying anything bad about you, we're just truly curious how you live such a life of plenty on a teacher's salary. For me, I'm a teacher and DH is out of work and I can barely pay the mortgage, and that is NOT in Cali where it's expensive to live! I'm just a curious person and if it was you (who I admire) or someone I hated, I'd be wondering the same thing. Is it my business? No. But I admit I'm really curious.
Second, maybe I missed some comments but the only negative one I read was saying they think your DH is gay. And I don't even know if they said that to be mean or if they really think that. Someone once told me they thought my DH was gay too, and I didn't take offense. He can be dorky and sometimes it comes off as effeminate.
As for your son, I think it was again just true curiosity. His clothing and hobbies are truly unique for a young man of his age, and I think people were just commenting on that because it really is different than the norm. Personally I am amazed at his confidence in doing and wearing these things, which seems rare for a 15 year old. I did see someone say that you treat him or speak of him strangely but I don't know where they got that from. Perhaps they thought you were forcing him to enjoy creative hobbies or wear funky outfits, rather than understanding that that is his own doing.
Anyway I just wanted to post because I feel bad you got hurt and I wanted to point out that maybe you took some of the comments as bashing you when really it was just curiosity (ie the finances). I was adopted when I was a baby and my mom always knew that until the adoption went through the courts, my birth mother could change her mind. She said for six months every time there was a knock at the door she hoped it wasn't her.

Since BH is not those babies' legal mother, her contact with them is probably kind of limited especially if the babies are in the NICU, which is possible.
With all the hype surrounding their pending birth, I also find it odd that she hasn't taken even a minute to update the peas of their arrival.
I work in labor and delivery. I know first hand that adoptive mothers are allowed to be in the room with the baby, even in the NICU. I worked with one today, about 4 hours ago. As long as the BM has no problems with it, it's fair game. Stop being a bitch.
