I was EXCITED for my kids to go off to college -both for them and for dh and I. After 20-some years of child-rearing, this new stage of life is awesome for all of us...as it should be.
My daughters school recommended we parents limit our contact with our kids until Thanksgiving.
To let them settle in and get adjusted to their new life without helicopter mommy sticking her nose into roommate, schedule, professor, dating etc issues.
It was hard to do (a quick phone call every couple of weeks) but she survived just fine.
Also, they explained that many freshmen get homesick first semester and the university wanted them to work it out (it passes) without helicopter mom tugging them home.

My biggest problem (no surprise here) is that my marriage is not at all stable and I'd be completely dependant on DH if I became a SAHM. No moving out or no divorce at that point.
That is exactly what would lead me to say no. If you think your marriage has problems now, wait until you are dependent on him and he thinks he can control you or you need to kiss his butt for supporting you.

I was EXCITED for my kids to go off to college -both for them and for dh and I. After 20-some years of child-rearing, this new stage of life is awesome for all of us...as it should be.
My daughters school recommended we parents limit our contact with our kids until Thanksgiving.
To let them settle in and get adjusted to their new life without helicopter mommy sticking her nose into roommate, schedule, professor, dating etc issues.
It was hard to do (a quick phone call every couple of weeks) but she survived just fine.
Thanksgiving? Sweet buttery Jeebus, these helicopter moms would go fucking ballistic if they were told that shit.
That would send the pea-mommies over the edge.
Also, they explained that many freshmen get homesick first semester and the university wanted them to work it out (it passes) without helicopter mom tugging them home.
I love my kids but there is life after kids.
