#8, Medicare does not cover hearing aids and a cheap one will cost you upwards of 1,000. DH had great insurance coverage before he retired and they didn't pay for them either. The only way you will get them paid for you is if your hearing loss is as a result of environment damage to your hearing. My brother gets them because he worked on the railroad, maybe Lizzy was a locomotive engineer, but I doubt it.

My insurance would cover a percentage of my hearing aids, but not the kind I wanted. It's like they will give you free glasses, but you look like a dork.
I am still young enough to be self conscious with people seeing my hearing aids. Mine fit inside my ear and there is only a fishing line type fiber coming out of the ear to the battery pack at the back of my ear. The whole set is about 3/4 of an inch.
I have blond hair, and the fiber blends in so well that people can't tell if I have them on or not. Even the people looking for them. They have to have me turn my head and look straight into the ear, then they see it. I also got the type that can be controlled by remote. I don't want to be sticking my finger on my ear and turning the volume. I need to be incredibly discrete with them.
My hearing is a hereditary loss that I didn't know was hereditary until it was discovered. My hearing aids were $2,300 and another $150 for the remote. And I didn't get the top of the line setup. My mom's were more expensive than mine.
Lizzie had to realize her hearing was failing. She talks about calling people, yet she doesn't have the special phone. I can hear to talk on the normal phone without my aids. I am not deaf. I just don't hear everything and that isn't good for my work. I don't buy that she is totally deaf. I think she is more like me, hard of hearing.
I would never consider retiring without making sure I have all that stuff covered. I just got my hearing aids last year, and I've already started a fund to replace them. I don't have a spare $4000 sitting around, which is what it will cost me for the next set. Planning. That's all it takes.
Actually, TriCare will (or did). I needed new ones (hearing impaired since birth) and my ex was in the Army at the time. TriCare footed the bill then. Medicaid will for minors (if they qualify). Medicare will not. My husband and I now have to put away some money for when it's time to replace the one I have now.
I only wish, that like most electronics, hearing aids would get cheaper. Instead, mine still cost around $2,000 for the one that's strong enough for my level of hearing loss.
I also think Lizzy was a poor planner, too focused on retiring, not so much on the costs that will follow.

the only way you could get cut off from COBRA early is if: A. you don't pay your premium or B. your former employer completely stopped offering medical coverage - unlikely in the case of a government agency.
The rules around health benefits (incl COBRA) are effing strict and definately favor the employee - I'd love to hear how Lizzy got "screwed out" of her COBRA coverage.
Another to say not true. My insurance covers new hearing aids every 3 years, up to $1500 each. It does not completely cover the type we buy for our son, but it's a nice chunk and he always gets to upgrade with new technology.

I agree America is not perfect, but how many of those other countries are people dying (actually DYING) to get in to and live? ------------ People die trying to into many countries. The U.S. isn't that special. That BS line is fed to us in America so we think it is. The truth is people are not dying to come here they are dying rather than live in their home country. Our laws are very relaxed and weakly enforced. They come here because it is easy not because it is so wonderful.
They were just coming here to work. Same goes for the Chinese, Indian, etc. As those economies continue to grow and ours declines, they leave and far fewer choose to immigrate here in the first place.

The last time a pit bull got under the fence into our backyard, my DH shot it. It helps that the 1/2 acre we have fenced in as a backyard is in the middle of 12 more acres. A golden retriever or a lab has a stable personality...they're pretty even-keeled in all circumstances, even when a kid is poking at them, for instance. I own a big dog and I'm very watchful of her around small dogs and kids. I don't think she would ever intentionally hurt them but rather want to play and not realize how much bigger she is. The media has sensationlized hate towards pitbulls and I find it disgusting. I also think less of people who jump on that bandwagon and eat up everything the media says instead of doing their own research
Is there any validity, really, about NOT reclining in an airplane seat? I've flown plenty of times in all the major US carriers and have not had a problem. I am 65 inches tall, but I have long legs and arms. I never felt "invaded" by someone reclining a seat, neither has my brother (he is 71 inches tall.)

I am two inches shorter, my spouse is 7 inches taller, I am a little claustrophobic and he's just tall and we are squished by air travel in general. we just don't complain about it. no use complainng, we just go where we want to go and do what we want to do. so we suffer a few hours in a plane, no big deal.

#8, Medicare does not cover hearing aids and a cheap one will cost you upwards of 1,000. DH had great insurance coverage before he retired and they didn't pay for them either. The only way you will get them paid for you is if your hearing loss is as a result of environment damage to your hearing. My brother gets them because he worked on the railroad, maybe Lizzy was a locomotive engineer, but I doubt it.

My insurance would cover a percentage of my hearing aids, but not the kind I wanted. It's like they will give you free glasses, but you look like a dork.
I am still young enough to be self conscious with people seeing my hearing aids. Mine fit inside my ear and there is only a fishing line type fiber coming out of the ear to the battery pack at the back of my ear. The whole set is about 3/4 of an inch.
I have blond hair, and the fiber blends in so well that people can't tell if I have them on or not. Even the people looking for them. They have to have me turn my head and look straight into the ear, then they see it. I also got the type that can be controlled by remote. I don't want to be sticking my finger on my ear and turning the volume. I need to be incredibly discrete with them.
My hearing is a hereditary loss that I didn't know was hereditary until it was discovered. My hearing aids were $2,300 and another $150 for the remote. And I didn't get the top of the line setup. My mom's were more expensive than mine.
Lizzie had to realize her hearing was failing. She talks about calling people, yet she doesn't have the special phone. I can hear to talk on the normal phone without my aids. I am not deaf. I just don't hear everything and that isn't good for my work. I don't buy that she is totally deaf. I think she is more like me, hard of hearing.
I would never consider retiring without making sure I have all that stuff covered. I just got my hearing aids last year, and I've already started a fund to replace them. I don't have a spare $4000 sitting around, which is what it will cost me for the next set. Planning. That's all it takes.

Actually, TriCare will (or did). I needed new ones (hearing impaired since birth) and my ex was in the Army at the time. TriCare footed the bill then. Medicaid will for minors (if they qualify). Medicare will not. My husband and I now have to put away some money for when it's time to replace the one I have now.
I only wish, that like most electronics, hearing aids would get cheaper. Instead, mine still cost around $2,000 for the one that's strong enough for my level of hearing loss.
I also think Lizzy was a poor planner, too focused on retiring, not so much on the costs that will follow.

the only way you could get cut off from COBRA early is if: A. you don't pay your premium or B. your former employer completely stopped offering medical coverage - unlikely in the case of a government agency.

Another to say not true. My insurance covers new hearing aids every 3 years, up to $1500 each. It does not completely cover the type we buy for our son, but it's a nice chunk and he always gets to upgrade with new technology.

The last time a pit bull got under the fence into our backyard, my DH shot it. It helps that the 1/2 acre we have fenced in as a backyard is in the middle of 12 more acres. And the time before a pit bull was loose, it mauled my lab. parks and have only met friendly pitbulls (most owned by regular looking white people ). There was one who's owner said he wasn't friendly so we stayed away. My dog has been snapped at by two dogs, a golden and black lab. Am I going to write those breeds off now, of course not.
I own a big dog and I'm very watchful of her around small dogs and kids. I don't think she would ever intentionally hurt them but rather want to play and not realize how much bigger she is. The media has sensationlized hate towards pitbulls and I find it disgusting.
