Early intervention is crucial- a good therapist will teach the parents how to adjust the environment and correctly motivate and model for the kid so they get as many opportunities to train those neural pathways as possible during the day.

When my oldest knew all of the sight words the first time they tested him on it, they asked me if they could test him on the next grade level's sight words. I said sure, go for it. By second grade, he knew all of the sight words and more. All we did was encourage him to read at home. It's not that difficult!

Parents are supposed to be involved with their child's learning by helping their child learn at home too. But it amazes me even more when parents say their kids can read well that they have the potential to be Albert Einstein. Then work on math, dumtwat.
When my oldest knew all of the sight words the first time they tested him on it, they asked me if they could test him on the next grade level's sight words. I said sure, go for it. By second grade, he knew all of the sight words and more. All we did was encourage him to read at home. It's not that difficult!
Sometimes he struggles with math, sometimes he doesn't. Every time his teacher told me he was ahead, I asked if she thought a workbook geared towards the next grade would be good. They always were happy to hear that. Instead of expecting the teachers to create new lesson plans for one child, how about you go out and buy some workbooks and challenge them at home?

My eldest child spent the night at my parent's home when he was 4 weeks old. Without me. His father and I enjoyed a lovely date night. he survived. He was fed, his diaper was changed and he slept. Imagine.
My grandparents (both in their late 70's)were left alone with this child when he was 2 weeks old while I went to doctor appointments. They all had a great time. And wonder of wonders, he survived.
I would have left the baby with my in-laws if they had lived nearby. When they came to visit him at 6 weeks, guess what, we left my in-laws with him and he still survived. Amazing, no?
In the first 6 weeks of his life, 'my baby' was left with both sets of grandparents AND his great-grandparents. He survived even though "I" wasn't with him 24/7.

Original Recipe Yield 1 - 9 inch pie
Ingredients
1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
4 tablespoons quick-cooking tapioca
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup white sugar
4 cups pitted cherries
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 tablespoons butter
Directions
1.Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (205 degrees C). Place bottom crust in piepan. Set top crust aside, covered.
2.In a large mixing bowl combine tapioca, salt, sugar, cherries and extracts. Let stand 15 minutes. Turn out into bottom crust and dot with butter. Cover with top crust, flute edges and cut vents in top. Place pie on a foil lined cookie sheet --- in case of drips!
3.Bake for 50 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown.
