I would like to say that my child had his year-end 504 review last week, and the teachers automatically put in that he should receive "extra testing time" and I said no. Take it out. Unless it's a day where he's had a freak out and can't physically take the test because he's too worked up, then fine. But he shouldn't automatically get extra time. He isn't mentally impaired.
I specifically wanted to make sure that he wasn't receiving extra time on ALL tests. Like the 5 minute multiplication tests they take every week. Those should be 5 minutes. I don't like the idea of my child receiving extra time just for the sake of it.
I'm 105, and I don't believe all of them are stupid, just some. I think the pendulum as swung too far, and now the schools are just giving in to all kinds of demands from parents. I would like to say that my child had his year-end 504 review last week, and the teachers automatically put in that he should receive "extra testing time" and I said no. Take it out. Unless it's a day where he's had a freak out and can't physically take the test because he's too worked up, then fine. But he shouldn't automatically get extra time. He isn't mentally impaired.
I specifically wanted to make sure that he wasn't receiving extra time on ALL tests. Like the 5 minute multiplication tests they take every week. Those should be 5 minutes. I don't like the idea of my child receiving extra time just for the sake of it.
I'm 105, and I don't believe all of them are stupid, just some. I think the pendulum as swung too far, and now the schools are just giving in to all kinds of demands from parents. How about getting a backbone, and forcing the kids to learn some life skills? Some of them are legitimate and very much needed, but many more are just over the top.
