Registries are not a DEMAND nor an INSULT. They're simply a rational means to help make the gift-givers life easier and to help prevent the recipient from getting 45 vases.

That said, no one is holding a gun to your head. You are *completely* free to buy whatever you want at whatever price point you can afford. Or nothing at all, for that matter.

So stop with the registry butthurt already.

Which rock did that ProfDW crawl out from under?
Firstly I don't believe a word she types, she is losing pounds but still shoveling in pizza and Subs? Plus the peas are all acting like she is the authority on eating clean.
How can women look at a plate of food and not know if it is full of crap or not?
Here's a clue - if the food you eat is all brown in color then it's bad for you.

I hate hate hate the words clean eating. It sounds so sanctimonious. And here the bitch is eating at subway. #hurl

That and the term seems to be favored by people who have had weight loss surgery, which just gets the @@ from me.

Re: Clean Eating

Holy Crap on a cracker. What a bunch of sanctimonious bull shit.

" I only eat MY home-made dressing. *I* don't eat any processed meat OR bread or FOOD"!!! * I* have a personal preference for high-quality food overall (high-quality meaning maximum nutritional value, minimum of anything harmful or any empty calories!"

That thread started out simple enough, then it slowly grew to the typical one-upmanship of each Pea eating better then the next.

Total BS -- if all of them ate they way they said - then they would not be fat.

Anonymous said...

Of course her homemade dressing is the best in the world, her family told her so! No-one else can mix oil, vinegar, herbs, onions and garlic together like she can.

Anonymous said...

I love that they're all concerned about which bread to select at Subway that is the "cleanest", meanwhile they're about to fill that sandwich with processed meats, cheeses, bacon and chemically laden sauces. That's some clean eatin' right there I tell ya! I bet those lard laden cookies you're adding for $1 are really clean too!

I am so fucking sick of the big clean eating trend. And yes, it's a trend. The Peas can't stop posting about it because they want everyone to know that they are superior. They're suddenly learning to eat "right" and even if they're only 1 week into it, they're looking down their noses at everyone else, acting all high and mighty.

They're just jumping on the latest bandwagon at 2Peas, and none of them would put the effort into it if they couldn't post about it all over 2Peas and FB and heap the praises from people. The attention from doing it is more important to them than the health benefits. I guarantee they couldn't do it without letting everyone know how fabulous they are for doing it.

It'll never last more than 7 or 8 weeks for most of them. It's too extreme to switch from eating junk to suddenly having no sugar or gluten or carbs or whatever the fuck they're giving up this week.

Moderation, people. Moderation is the key. And gradual change. Drastic changes like this never last and in a year they'll be moving on to the next big thing in the news. It'll probably be something like "Eat everything except fruit and you'll never get cancer, plus you'll lose 50 pounds".

God they irritate me. No one can think for themselves and stand up and be proud of the way they live and the things they like. They all hop from one trend to the next, convincing themselves it's the best thing ever, just because the other Peas are posting about it. I hope they all enjoy their 4-5 weeks of clean eating. Maybe they can all use their red Kitchenaid mixers to whip up some seaweed and green beans. I'm sure their husbands and kids will be loving it.

Anonymous said...

7 or 8 weeks?
Half of them won't even last 7 or 8 DAYS

Anonymous said...

#3 ITA. They are so ridiculous. I don't know how half of them get through life. It's like they get up each day and search for ways to twist things around so they can play the victim. It's like they're constantly looking for things to be offended over or to get riled up about. It's exhausting, frankly. I swear the energy and ire they put into things like getting offended over the existence of registries must take years off their lives. There's no way any of them are truly happy and enjoying life. I'm sure on their death beds they'll be so glad they took up the cause of posting 118 times on message boards about how tacky registries are.

My MIL should be a Pea. She's constantly in a frenzy trying to project herself and her family as the perfect All-American family in her little town. It's like watching a play. Everything is this big act to ensure that people see us all in a certain way. It's all prim and proper and reserved and perfect.

Meanwhile she's missing out on living her actual LIFE. She can never relax and just be herself and let go. She's always whipped up into a snit about something. She's nervous that people will find out this or that. It's so fucking exhausting just watching it. I can't imagine living it.

Anonymous said...

You know who eats really "clean"? people in third world countries. I don't see them bragging much.

My MIL is just like that. She actually fooled me the first couple of years I knew her because I didn't see her daily, know her close friends well or talk to her at length. Biggest regret of my life. I strongly advised my kids to get to know their possible in-laws inside and out before marriage because you get stuck with those people too not just your spouse.

I think the mistake people make with "Clean Eating" is that they give it a label and treat it like a diet.

I myself, have for a very long time eaten only lean proteins, fruit and veg, no dairy and occasionally a starch. It keeps me feeling good and I've lost weight as a result.

BUT. I don't go around claiming to be on a "clean eating" diet. I just cut out the junk, realized it wasn't good for me, and didn't go back. In order for these women to see results, they will have to adopt a new lifestyle.

One day people in this country will realize that switching to a new "diet" every six weeks does nothing for you. It's about getting away from processed crap, drinking water, and moving a little bit. Even if you're still considered overweight, if you do the above, you'd be 90% healthier than the rest of the country.

Anonymous said...

If you're overweight or have had weight loss surgery, you shouldn't be giving diet advice, period.

Anonymous said...

14, I agree 100%

I'm a person who has always eaten "clean" and gown/made my own food. I was also green before it was cool. I remember when you really had to go out of the way to find products and foods. I've just always lived that way. My grandparents did, my parents did, and down the line.

I used to get odd stares and shitty remarks from people SO similar to what the Peas are like. People would insult, belittle, and laugh at me.

It's really interesting that NOW they are doing the exact same thing as I always did. The big difference? I wasn't ever a sanctimonious twat about it. I would never look down on or say something cunty about how someone ate or what they fed the kids. I never spouted off how much better and superior I was. If someone was curious and asked me, I told them why I did it, how it worked, etc.

Same with organic/no pesticides/preservatives. I'd pull out something at a picnic, they'd point at me and laugh in my face. Fast forward a couple years and a couple buzzwords - they are ALL up on the bandwagon now.

Reminds me of every pea on that thread.

15 I disagree. Well I agree about people who have had weightloss surgery giving advice, but I think an overweight person can give advice if they have lost substantial weight over a long period of time. Like a year or more. Losing weight is a process. It's not like you hit a magic number and you become knowledgable. There are a lot of thin people who shouldn't be giving advice too.

"Moderation, people. Moderation is the key. And gradual change."

ITA #9 And this is exactly what I have done.

I am 50 lbs overweight. I knew I had to make changes. I also knew I could not plunge head first into a "clean eating, organic, couch to 5K program" and stay with it long term. Going from fast food, fried food, too much sugar and junk food with no exercise to being a super cool, crunchy granola-eating marathoner was totally unrealistic.

Instead, it has become all about choices. I eat out far, far less - it's easier to monitor what I eat at home. I grill instead of fry. I have eliminated processed meats and packaged foods. I use fresh or frozen plain vegetables. I walk 3 miles a day, every day. It's been hard. But I have lost 10 lbs. It's a start.

But - by Pea standards, I am a failure. I buy non-organic produce, dairy and meat. (Oh the HORROR!) I eat fast-food twice a month. (Shame, shame). I have NOT lost 8 lbs in one week. (Hanging my head in mock-embarrassment). I am, by 2P's measure - a failure. Boo-hoo.

But, not to fear. There will be a new, uber-cool diet trend posted on 2 Peas in the near future. Maybe I can jump of the next bandwagon, post a ton and get pats on the back just like all the other super cool diet expert Peas! WhooHoo!

-------------------------------------------------

I agree and disagree with you #15

Weight Loss surgery is such a totally different approach to losing weight than any other weight loss program. I have very mixed feelings about it. On one hand - Yeah! for those that are morbidly obese and have made the commitment to do something about losing weight and possibly saving their lives in the process.

However, surgery is really only available to those that either a) have the money or b) have the right insurance that will pay for it. Plus, the first massive amount of weight loss they obtain has very little to do with eating correctly and exercising and is more about the results of actually shrinking the stomach. Then they go on a highly specialized diet. Useful for me - not so much.

As for those that are still dieting giving advice? Why not? It can be useful to share successful dieting tips about food choices, recipes, work-out ideas. Pick what might be useful and ignore the rest.

Anonymous said...

I've had weight loss surgery and I guarentee you if we went out to lunch you'd never know it. I've never been on a "specialized diet". My surgery was a long time ago, before those diets were popular. I went home on "diet as tolerated"; no protein drinks, no special bariatric vitamins...just centrum, citrical and OTC iron. I've maintained my 100+ pound weight loss for about 10 years, so it's working for me.

But I'd NEVER think I could give "diet advice".....

One more thing about the Peas and dieting and then I'll go away. I promise.

It makes me absolutely crazy when someone posts about losing 6, 8 or ten pounds the first week of a new diet.

I have never, ever met anyone in person that could sustain that amount of weight loss each and every week. No one. It always, always drops off to 2 or 3 lbs a week and then they are so, so disappointed.

I think when someone rushes to post about a tremendous first week weight loss, many of the Peas are just not smart enough to realize that the odds are slim to none that you will be able to lose those extra 80 lbs in just 10 weeks. It's just not going to happen.

Here's a PSA and a Wake-up Call to all dieting Peas:

1) The first week is mostly, if not all water weight. While encouraging, that amount of weight loss very well may never happen again during your dieting.

2) The hard part of dieting is just beginning. Eating properly is not a *diet*. It's called a new, healthy, life time commitment of making the right food choices and moving your body.

Welcome to your new normal. Not for a few weeks, months or years. For a lifetime.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking with it. And now I have to get off my fat ass and go clean my house, I have in-law family coming for a visit tomorrow am. Joy.

actually, powdered peanut butter is very good for certain things. It has WAY less fat than regular peanut butter so if that is an issue for you, you have a leaner alternative. I use powdered peanut butter in smoothies and it is delicious. It is also really good in baked goods. But of course, most baked goods don't classify as "clean eating"....HA!

LOL I just had never heard of it. Is it still healthy after having to add all this? (curious not handslappin' lol)

In a bowl, mix together:

1/2 cup PB2
1/4 cup water
2 Tbsp rice wine vinegar
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 packet (2-3 tsp) Splenda
1/4 tsp chili oil
1/4 to 1/2 tsp crushed red chili flakes
1 Tbsp fish sauce
1/2 cup coconut milk
1 Tbsp cornstarch

Issa openly promised the Republican party bigwigs that he would deliver Obama’s ass on a platter, so he's ginned up a BOGUS Whitewater-type fishing expedition (nevermind the already ongoing IG investigation) to find a Little Blue Dress to nail Holder/Obama with.

One would think that a *real* investigation would have started by questioning the Bush administration people who actually cooked up the whole gun walking scheme, but Issa *expressly* disallowed that. Huh.

When Issa wasn't uncovering anything juicy that led to Holder or Obama, he just started subpoening stuff right and left until it got to a point where the DOJ said NO - the stuff you're asking for is irrevelent, privileged and will put agents, tactics and ongoing investigations at risk.

BOOM! CONTEMPT! WHAT ARE THEY HIDING!!!1!!!??

Congrats, America.

You were suckered in by Republican's sugar-coated promises that they'd focus on jobs and get America back on track.

Instead, we've gotten NOTHING but obstructionism, batshit conspiracy theories, racism and mysogyny and to top it off we now get to watch as a Congress with a 9% public approval rating spends the next 5+ months and a metric shit-ton of taxpayer money focusing on an expensive, politically-motivated witch hunt.

I'd rather to go watch female strippers than male strippers even though I'm straight. Male strippers are just so cheesy. It's like a big joke. Nothing hot about their cheeseball acts. That is the last movie I'd want to admit I'm waiting to see.

----------------------------------------

This is just like my MIL. It's all about appearances. The entire family never talks about anything real, it's all so superficial and fake. All in the name of being prim and proper so the other people in town won't "talk". I want to drive a stake through my head when I'm visiting. They talk about how many hummingbirds she's had this summer or how pretty someone's blouse is with the lace around the collar.

It's kind of comical actually, comparing how DH is around me and my family to how he is around his own family. It's like they don't even know him, whereas my family really knows him well and sees the real him.

DH and I didn't live together before we got married but he slept over a lot at my apartment, and we went on a couple vacations together. I am sure my MIL was all flustered and in a panic over what people would say.

She really belongs in the 50s with TXpackrat

Not all the threads referenced are all that interesting, (it is the Buckit after all) and we might just want to get to the point you were trying to make and not do all this research to try to figure out who the hell and what the hell you're talking about. So either call them by their name or be prepared to answer the question of who the hell you're talking about. Yes I realize some may know who you're talking about but not everyone does.

On the adoption thread I agree the OP's DH needs to cool it, but nightowl scrapper posting this just pisses me off. Let me guess, she's an overprotective mom of some teen snowflake mama's boys who couldn't possibly understand the consequences of sex and boys will be boys. WTF - teenage boys should know damn well that if they have sex without protection they can easily make a baby and if the girl decides to put the baby up for adoption he/she might get a call in 18, 25, 40 years. If they don't understand that, they're way overdue for a talk, mama nightowl. I'm so sick of parents making excuses for their kids, especially teenage boys. Give the kids some credit. If they can manage Calculus, they can manage figuring out that having sex w/o a condom can screw your life up in many ways. God I want to smack her with her "young boy could not have predicted...."

(someone else put the part about keeping it zipped, her reply is the 2nd part):

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next time keep it zipped.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I assume you are referring to the biodad's zipper? there have been a couple of comments along the lines of "if you have sex, you should expect all this". Um, no. I think it is utterly ridiculous to expect a teenage boy to foresee that in 40 years someone

181 I love you! Haaaaaaaa

183 I don't care if she has adopted, bio, boys, girls, or no kids. No one should be making excuses for teenage boys, saying they don't understand the consequences of sex. YES, they should and they do. If they're claiming they never could've predicted what could happen for a quick 5 minute thing in the back of the bus, they're pulling the wool over your eyes. They just don't WANT to use a condom and they convince themselves "it won't happen, just this once...." but deep down they know they could be making a baby. They are just willing to chance it in the moment. I can't stand people in this day and age, when you are bombarded with safe sex info at every turn, that a precious young gentleman didn't know what he was doing could end up in a clusterfuck.
